General Overview:
JSSA is one of Washington metropolitan area's most established and fastest-growing health and social service agencies, with offices in Maryland and Northern Virginia. Our mission is to empower individuals and families to achieve well-being across their lifespan. Our Accounting department has an immediate opening for a full-time Senior Accountant to join our team. Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Accountant is responsible for the following finance and grant functions:

Essential Functions:
  • Perform grant-related post-award functions, including budget and expense analysis, monthly and quarterly invoicing, financial reporting, reconciliations, budget modifications and grant closeout financial reporting.
  • Assisting in preparation of grant budgets; preparing grant invoices for submission to federal, state, county governments and private foundations
  • Updating activity in the endowment funds and producing monthly endowment reports for each fund
  • Recording revenue for specific programmatic business lines; researching/answering questions from program directors
  • Reconciling bank and asset accounts
  • Posting journal entries and participating in monthly closing process
  • Acting as an integral contributor to the annual budget process
  • Providing audit support for the annual agency audits
  • Assisting in the timely completion of all annual regulatory filings
  • Maintaining depreciation schedule for agency’s fixed assets
Job Requirements:
1. BS Degree in Accounting plus 3-5 years of relevant, progressively responsible experience, preferably in the non-profit community, with experience grant and financial reporting
2. Ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial managers
3. Ability to analyze, evaluate and summarize financial records for accuracy and conformance to procedures, rules and regulations
4. Familiar with grant accounting fundamentals and capable of managing multiple projects. Ability to multi task is essential
5. Strong analytical, presentation, communication (verbal and written), organizational and problem-solving skills
6. Ability to work independently
7. Experience using Dynamics software or demonstrated ability to learn accounting software
8. Knowledge and demonstrated experience with MS Office package software applications with advanced skills using Microsoft Excel
