Gatepath is committed to provide an immersive, rewarding experience for our interns, and to provide training, mentorship and professional development opportunities related to human services.

Internships are available in Burlingame, South San Francisco, and Daly City.

We are seeking full-time or part-time interns (12-34 hours/week, no weekends)

Program hours are 9:00-3:00 Mon-Fri.

This is a great experience for anyone looking to go into Special Education or Transition Services, Occupational, Physical or Speech Therapy, Recreation Administration, Social Work or non-profit Administration.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct care and supervision of adult Participants enrolled in services at a Gatepath Learning Campus (San Carlos, Burlingame or Daly City.)
  • Under the supervision of your mentor, you will help develop and implement a curriculum with interesting and engaging activities focused on employment readiness for our clients.
  • Enrich class and participant's educational programs to meet their individual needs, goals, and interests using agency and community resources.
  • Use clinical insights, educational motivational techniques and a commitment to excellence to promote growth in the classroom.
  • Maintain all appropriate records including participant goals, attendance records, teacher files, lesson plans consistent with classroom goals and objectives.
  • Administer periodic standard educational testing measures and use record of results to set individual goals and improve strategies.
  • Report through educational and clinical notes on participants and participate in treatment team meetings as requested.
  • Write concise, legible, high-quality documentation related to Participants' needs.
  • Develop effective classroom management techniques consistent with the use of backup systems, participant goals and treatment plans and agency policy.

Experience and Qualifications

  • recent enrollment in college curriculum aligned with Gatepath programming
  • You have "mentoring" mentality; a passion for teaching, coaching, and training
  • Experience with adults with developmental disabilities is preferred
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviors
  • Preferred, but not required for internship: Valid Driver License, clean driving record, ability to pass a driving test in a 9-passenger vehicle
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; Strong customer service skills
  • Strong computer skills, ability to check email daily, use an iPad and use a smartphone

Pre-employment requirements include an ability to clear a criminal background check and obtain required medical clearances. We will also check professional (or academic) references and verify recent employment. You will be required to provide proof of eligibility to work in the US (we use e-Verify to process work authorization documents.)

Physical activity requirements include an ability to physically respond to people with special needs, an ability to lift/support at least 40 lbs. as needed, an ability to walk, sit, stand, stoop, and bend frequently.
