Full Job Description
Under general supervision of the Graduate and Research Affairs Information Technology Director, the Business Analyst is responsible for three main areas:
1. Training users and supporting software applications used across the Graduate and Research Affairs (GRA) division (and in some cases the graduate and research campus community).
2. Delivering solutions to meet the needs of the GRA division and/or larger community.
3. Effectively analyzing and presenting data in ways that meet the needs of end users.
This position will work closely with campus faculty and staff and will require strong verbal and written communication skills. This role will require an individual that can build and sustain trust with colleagues.
The ideal candidate must be effective working with small and large groups to roll out, enhance and support software applications. They must be adept at prioritizing, communicating and delivering to commitments. They must have the ability to effectively drive problems and issues to resolution and be able to bring structure to unstructured situations.

This is a full/part-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
Education and Experience
To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Information Technology Consultant, depending on the nature of the position assignment, may include working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
A bachelor's degree or its equivalent in work experience.
Experience with higher education vendor software, degree planning, CRM/contract management and Student Information Systems (SIS).
Prior higher education work experience.
Experience supporting software with large user bases.
Experience working in one or more phases of the software delivery lifecycle (SDLC).
Hands on data experience – investigating, reporting and presenting data to colleagues and customers.
Experience and demonstrated ability to deliver training and consultation to users.
Experience working with a large diverse audience and a strong ability to adjust content and messaging for different audiences.
A minimum of one year of experience operating vendor software solutions that serve multiple departments (college work experience / intern experience counts).
Demonstrated experience solving business problems (with or without the use of technology).
Experience building relationships across different levels of an organization.
Strong problem solving skills – be able to bring suggestions and alternatives to unique situations.
Ability to work with third party vendors and university personnel to address time sensitive issues.
Ability to work and communicate effectively with others; maintain a cooperative working relationship with all colleagues.
Proven ability to present information, communicate ideas clearly and succinctly.
Strong attention to detail skills is required to anticipate issues and solve problems effectively.
Experience analyzing data and presenting it in clear terms tailored for the intended audience.
An ability to work independently to deliver on work priorities.
Must have customer friendly can-do attitude.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $4,416 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,372 - $10,792 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.
