Duties & Responsibilities
Oversees all aspects related to drivers and works to resolve driver issues.
Discipline and/or write up drivers when warranted.
Complete Driver Performance Evaluations.
Promote safe operations by monitoring and ensuring driver’s participation in all safety related training and hours of service compliance.
Work with fleet and dispatch trucks; assign loads and equipment to drivers; note: may fall under dedicated Load Planner responsibilities if present at location.
Ensure all of customer’s needs are being met by USX and its drivers by developing a sense of trust and integrity.
Repower if needed to make sure load doesn’t service fail.
Monitor and update Driver-Tech messages/macros and XPM operating system driver boards to ensure drivers are moving without issue.
Monitor tracking reports to ensure all waiting shipments are picked up and delivered timely.
Update status of loads in XPM operating system and on tracking reports daily and add trailers when needed.
Contact drivers to give them pre-assignments and to get ETAs on loads that have already been picked up.
Contact customer to inform them of any updates to delivery/pick up times.
Ensure drivers are completing required Driver-tech macros in regards to pickups/delivery.
May schedule backhauls with shipper and track/send report to customer.
May conduct yard checks to assist in locating trailers for drivers.
Monitor idle times for all tractor and contact driver when there is an issue.
Assures all fleet maintenance programs are current on tractors and trailers.
Ensure account drivers are up to date on trainings, re-certifications and safety briefings and make sure drivers are aware of and following all safety/legal requirements.
Route trucks into appropriate shops or terminals when repairs or inspections are needed.
Route drivers in to the terminal for a random drug screen when necessary.
Maintain proper attendance and punctuality to ensure that the department is operated in an efficient and cost effective manner.
May include other duties as assigned by Management.
Bachelor degree in related field or equivalent experience required. Equivalent years of experience are defined as one year of professional experience for each year of college requested.
Minimum 3 years of high volume operational experience required.
Minimum of 1 year leadership experience required.
Experience in the transportation industry is a plus.
Intermediate interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills required; ability to exchange information effectively and tactfully, moderate degree of tack diplomacy when dealing with others and handling sensitive issues.
Intermediate computer skills required; experience with Microsoft Office, Internet, and applicable company-specific applications.
Strong analytical, problem solving, strategic and innovative thinking skills.
Extreme patience in dealing with volatile situations; flawless follow-up procedures.
Comprehensive knowledge of DOT regulations impacting daily operations.
Work Environment: this job operates in a normal professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and fax machines, and filing cabinets.
Physical Requirements: while performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk or hear; frequently stands, walks, uses hands to finger, handle or feel; and reaches with hands and arms.
This is a salaried position with a paygrade of ES11.
