Position Description

The Head of Learning & Development will lead a team of learning and development professionals who partner with business leaders to ensure that teammates at Union Bank and Trust have the knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences they need to not only succeed in their role but to thrive. In order to do this, the Head of Learning & Development will use a consultative approach with lines of business to identify and develop learning plans that support strategy and enable a culture of coaching and development. As a people leader, the Head of Learning & Development will also develop L&D teammates, focusing on building the consultative mindset throughout the team, building business acumen and developing a strong partnership approach.

Position Accountabilities

Drive the execution of the Learning and Development multi-year strategy, keeping it closely aligned to Union’s enterprise strategy.
Lead learning and development team, working in concert with HR Business Partners, to build close partnerships with LOB Peers and Business Executives to understand imperatives, gain insights into critical drivers for the organization, to define the appropriate learning and development approach.
Enhance the way the learning and development team supports the business. Expand into new lines of business to develop long-term development plans aligned to their strategic plans.
Lead and support the creation of a culture of coaching and development.
Support the adoption of the performance development program through digital, blended and instructor-led training to develop leadership muscle for people leaders and all teammates.
Build a nimble and agile leadership curriculum that can scale and adapt as the organization grows and changes.
Partner with the business to develop the knowledge, skills and abilities they need to achieve their objectives and strategic intent.
Lead the creation of team based development plans and learning and career paths for specific roles and job families
Lead a team of learning professionals to partner with internal resources to identify and align learning and development programs to strategy and business unit execution
Lead the design and implementation of new learning solutions; bring in other members of the business and HR community to create holistic and sustainable solutions, including communications and change management strategies to ensure learning is imbedded into culture and common practice.
Lead and develop the learning and development team to drive change and continuous improvement.
Model a consultative approach to ensure the learning and development team collaborates with key stakeholders to understand the organization’s strategic intent and priorities, identify and diagnoses performance gaps and build, align and implement learning and development that drives personal growth and organizational performance
Introduce and reinforce new learning methods and ideologies.
Coach and develop the learning and development team to create concise, creative and effective learning solutions using instructional design expertise and leveraging technology to create and implement a variety of learning solutions.
Lead a digital mindset and skillset transformation, helping all teammates build digital capabilities. Pave the way to best leverage digital technology in the design and application of learning.
Drive the renovation and expansion of enterprise learning including new teammate orientation, compliance training and onboarding.
Align, manage and measure work of the learning and development team to ensure work is produced on time, in scope and with quality.
Represent learning in broader project efforts, ensuring an early focus on the implementation needs to ensure effective delivery in alignment with project timeline goals.
Manage a pipeline of learning projects with multiple deliverables and owners, keeping the team on track to deliver high quality products on schedule.
Partner with talent management leadership teams to align resources to support key processes and projects throughout the talent lifecycle.
Ensure the successful delivery of all learning offerings.

Organizational Relationship

This position reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer.
Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
Master’s Degree in Business, Instructional Design, Organizational Learning, Human Resource Development, or related field preferred
At least 10 years of experience in learning and development, organizational development or talent management required
At least 5 years of experience in people management required
At least 5 years of experience in learning or performance consulting required
Experience in the retail banking or financial industry required
