It oversees the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), the largest mortgage insurer in the world, and regulates important parts of the housing industry. The Office of Housing also helps ensure consumers can access housing counseling and provides affordable rental housing through its Multifamily housing program. The Office of Single Family Housing is responsible for the overall management of Single Family mortgage insurance programs for the Federal Housing Administration (FHA). The Office assists in the expansion of affordable and quality homeownership opportunities for individuals and families who are traditionally underserved by the private market. The Office also acts as a stabilizing force in the single family home financing market by increasing access to mortgage credit. Policies and programs administered by the Office-from becoming an FHA-approved mortgage lender or other stakeholder, to mortgage origination through post-closing and endorsement processes, servicing of FHA mortgages, and beyond-assist in the provision of these affordable mortgage programs while meeting the needs of borrowers. These functions are carried out by dedicated staff in our Washington, DC headquarters, four Homeownership Centers in Atlanta, GA, Denver, CO, Philadelphia, PA, and Santa Ana, CA, and through our National Servicing Center in Tulsa, OK.

As an Appraiser, you will:
- Organize, develop, and conduct periodic formal/informal training of Underwriters, approved appraisers and personnel from various trade organizations; also provide training and direction to less experienced staff in the Branch.
- Conduct detailed field reviews of selected URARs received from appraisers and analyze all the information submitted for accuracy, supportability and consistency, and to ensure that, in each case, the appraiser has properly applied the current principles, practices, and techniques of appraising.
- Recommend disciplinary actions or sanctions against appraisers who violate USPAP or HUD program requirements as set forth in HUD handbooks and in the Code of Federal Regulations.
Occasional travel - 1-5 nights per month

Specialized Experience :
For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Completing desk and field reviews of Single Family property appraisals; AND
- Providing technical assistance and policy guidance on appraisal related issues; AND
- Analyzing and resolving appraisal valuation issues and assessing related collateral risk.
In addition to meeting specialized experience, applicants must have a State Certified Residential Appraiser License. (You must submit a copy of your current state license and certification to be considered. Failure to submit this required documentation will result in loss of consideration for this position.)

- The employee, or the employee's spouse or minor child acquires, without specific intent as through inheritance, a property in which a tenant receiving such a subsidy already resides;
- The tenant receiving such a subsidy lived in the rental property before the employee worked for the Department;
- The tenant receiving such a subsidy is a parent, child, grandchild, or sibling of the employee;
- The employee's, or the employee's spouse or minor child's, rental property has an incumbent tenant who has not previously received such a subsidy and becomes the beneficiary thereof; or
- The location of the rental property is in a Presidentially declared emergency or natural disaster area and the employee receives prior written approval from an agency designee.
