Intelligent Waves, a rapidly growing Service Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), has an immediate need for a Senior System Monitoring Engineer to support our mission critical work for our USAF customers. The ideal candidate will possess experience with enterprise level system monitoring and health & status tools – particularly Zenoss – and the knowledge and skills to support continuous development & integration of new technologies and train new staff on day-to-day usage. Specific training for Zenoss can be provided to develop a well-qualified candidate. The candidate will join the Engineering Services (ES) division of Intelligent Waves (IW) and support our USAF (and other DoD) customers.
Location & Travel:
This Senior Systems Monitoring Engineer position can be based anywhere in the continental US (preferred to be located near Rome, NY, Hampton, VA, or Warner Robins, GA) and may require telework (50%) and travel to customer sites (50%). Travel will be reimbursed based on GSA Per Diem rates and DoD Joint Travel Regulations (JTR). A majority of the travel will be 1-2 weeks in duration.
This Senior System Monitoring Engineer position must be a United States Citizen and hold a current Top-Secret Clearance with SCI eligibility.
Roles and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Develop project plans and schedules, identify technical risks, and support the customer in mitigating risks to the mission
Successfully execute projects, on-budget and schedule, and document/report project outcome
Provide Subject Matter Expertise (SME) to new Operations and Maintenance (O&M) staff for Health & Status Monitoring
Develop and Deliver formalized and over-the-shoulder training on the Zenoss solution to O&M staff
Working with O&M staff at disparate sites to develop customized views for different users’ needs
Work with Service and Application developers to monitor critical components for mission success
Support DevOps staff in developing standards for heath & status monitoring and integrating new devices, services, and applications into the baseline
Tune thresholds and metrics to for monitored devices and services
Configure infrastructure components to provide health & status information to Zenoss via SSH and SNMP
Discover and model infrastructure components (network, compute, storage, VMWare) in Zenoss
Discover and model Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Windows Virtual Machines
Design, Implement, and Test Zenoss updates into test and production systems
Develop updated automated solutions to deploy and configure new and updated Zenoss instances
Develop and update System Documentation
Perform other Duties as assigned
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or other related scientific or technical discipline
Active DOD TS/SCI
- Ability to pass a criminal background check, drug screening, and medical assessment
- Must have minimum 3 years’ experience with the design/architecture, installation, and/or operations of hardware and software technologies listed above
- DoD 8570 Certification (Security+ CE, CCNA Security, CISSP, …)
- Extensive experience with System Monitoring tools and processes
- Extensive experience with RHEL administration
- Extensive experience with Docker, Puppet, and YUM
- Experience with configuring monitoring capabilities thru TCP/IP and SNMP
