Harris & Associates is searching for an Environmental Analyst/Biologist to join our Environmental Planning + Compliance Practice.
The primary responsibilities of the position is to prepare environmental documentation in compliance with the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) for a variety of complex planning, development and infrastructure projects and also conduct tasks associated with biological resources including data review, field surveys, monitoring, and report writing. Attention to detail, including strong spelling, proofreading, and organizational skills, is required.
The successful candidate will have strong research, writing, mathematical, scientific, analytical and verbal communication skills. The position demands the ability to coordinate effectively with the project team, and to prioritize and complete high-quality work within specified deadlines. A strong work ethic, positive attitude and experience working in a team-oriented environment is also required. A test of practical skills may be given to final candidates.
Responsibilities and Duties
Applying knowledge of environmental regulations, including CEQA and NEPA requirements
Assist with preparation of CEQA and NEPA documents including Environmental Impact Reports, Mitigated Negative Declarations, Initial Studies and related documents under the direction of a project manager
Research, data collection, and technical writing
Conduct biological resources surveys under the direction of a senior biologist
Prepare biological resources technical reports
Assist with the preparation of other technical studies, such as air quality, greenhouse gas emissions, and noise
Cultivating strong relationships with clients, including frequent written and verbal communication
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental studies, environmental sciences, planning or related field
Two years of related work experience preparing environmental documents and/or supporting technical studies
Knowledge of Southern California flora and fauna
Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Strong oral and written communication/interpersonal skills
Strong research, mathematical/scientific and analytical skills
The position may require infrequent travel
Candidates in the San Diego area are strongly preferred
