DS Smith Plc is a leading provider of corrugated packaging and are present in 37 countries, employing around 27,000 people. We are seeking one Creative Design Specialistfor our site in Cambridge, MD. The Creative Design Specialist position is highly visible within the DS Smith North America Packaging Division, business segments and Corporate as his/her work will reflect the image of the DS Smith brand. The position reports to the Marketing Director – Packaging Division, North America.

Role Overview:

Design, develop and implement engaging content across various communications channels and mediums in support of strategic marketing initiatives within the division. This role uses design methodology and creative design thinking to advance division-wide strategic programs. Research, analyze and design formal and informal program components that support strategic marketing and sales objectives. Consult with key stakeholders and create compelling information design solutions for the organization, management, and associates as necessary. Develop design rationale and explain visual choices to corresponding stakeholders. Excited by the challenge of collaborating with internal teams to effectively translate complicated ideas into visually compelling, impactful presentations and communications assets.

Areas of Responsibility:

Creative Design

  • Provide graphic expertise, brand and project management for planning, design, development, implementation and alignment of marketing initiatives to business/divisional priorities and goals
  • Create original graphic content and informational graphics for slides, social media and other marketing materials (print and online) for a wide variety of audiences
  • Design support for sales and marketing collateral, events (internal and external), and the DS Smith website with the ability to create all variations and options when needed
  • Maintain program brand continuity across all projects and platforms
  • Provide strong influencing, negotiation and communication skills in both written and verbal forms
  • Manage and maintain existing visual design implementations, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrate strong planning, analytical, problem solving and decision making skills
  • Manage projects from initiation to completion, error-free, within time constraints and within budget
  • Demonstrate strong customer/client empathy and advocacy
  • Provide quality assurance on all deliverables

Presentation Design

  • Design presentation materials for internal company-wide, external project pitches and external events using company branding guidelines
  • Contribute to presentations, using professional presentation techniques and tools, linking design work to market insights and the brand stories and strategy developed for the design, brand and business
  • Translate ideas including brainstorm sessions, white boards, text, or existing PowerPoint designs, into visually compelling narratives
  • Develop narratives and design supporting presentations that inspire, inform, and captivate the audience

The candidate:

Education & Certifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in marketing, graphic design, communications, or a related field is required
  • 2-3 years’ experience in related field
  • Advanced degrees are also beneficial

Qualification & Experience

  • High-end presentation design skills (e.g., diagrams, charts, animations) and expertise in layout, color, iconography, and typography as well as cutting-edge presentation techniques
  • Expert in Microsoft PowerPoint with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
  • Highly skilled in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver)
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills along with copyediting experience
  • Versed in Social Media management
  • Understands the strengths and limitations of presentation technology including aspect ratios, projectors, sound, and video equipment
  • Understands image formats, resolution, and size
  • Ability to evaluate design work, both strategically and aesthetically
  • HTML, Google Analytics, SEO, CMS are a plus but not mandatory
  • Ability to manage fast-paced schedules and tackle multiple projects at once while maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to build rapport, work effectively and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, and with all levels within the organization, as well as the ability to work independently
  • Ability to work flexible hours if required to support critical deadline
  • Strong conceptual thinking, extremely self-motivated and can innovate with little direction
  • Portfolio showing proven ability in design
