Controller / Accountant

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee payroll clerk, accounts receivable, administrative assistant and accounts payable officer

Responsible for the preparation and review of all monthly quarterly and annual financial statements.

Interact with Information Technology (outsourced) to ensure that systems and financial software operate in an efficient manner.

Manage general ledger to include accurate and timely reconciliation of the balance sheet.

Request and track expiration dates for certificates of insurance on subcontractors, project exemptions, and w-9s

Manage banking

Oversee job filing

Input pending and approved change orders

Issue 1099 at year ends

Set up jobs in Foundation accounting software

Process lien waivers and consent of surety for bonded jobs

Worker comp claim reporting – including OSHA forms

Mange inventory reports and adjustments

Oversee insurance renewal

Review big jobs for warranty information, inspection punch lists, open PO, etc. to close jobs

Provide information to bonding company at year end

Monitor state tax requirements

Manage license requirements

Review and submit property tax forms

Process contractor’s qualification forms

Manage depreciation schedule

Prepare monthly financial statements and reports– includes adjustments to accrual, inventory adjustments, over/under billing, job costs accrual, etc.

Prepare year end work sheets for external CPA firm who prepares tax returns

Other duties assigned by company President

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

Required

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Accounting, Finance or related field

5 years’ accounting experience

Experience working with automated accounting systems

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Experience in payroll processing

Strong organization skills

Preferred

Experience in construction industry preferred (will train the right individual)

Leadership experience preferred

Must be able to continuously maneuver around office

Effective communication

Must have the manual dexterity to operate the computer and other necessary office equipment

Must be able to work independently

Must be self-motivated and able to handle more than one function at a time by being well organized
