About HICOR

The Hutchinson Institute for Cancer Outcomes Research (HICOR) takes an innovative approach to improve the effectiveness of cancer prevention, treatment and therapy while stemming the high costs of cancer care. HICOR’s diverse portfolio includes federally and privately funded research projects investigating a variety of aspects of the cancer experience in the community, including patterns of screening, treatment, and treatment decision making, with particular interest in health care economics and outcomes. HICOR also has experience in designing and performing cost-effectiveness analyses of drugs, devices, and interventions, with an eye towards supporting public and private decision making to maximize health value under resource constraints.

About the Value in Cancer Care Initiative

Since its inception in 2014, HICOR has been developing a community engagement program called the Value in Cancer Care (VCC) Initiative. The VCC Initiative engages a regional network of patient and stakeholder partners in a range of activities, including 1) identifying shared priorities for improving cancer care, 2) characterizing community performance relative to shared priorities through the generation of performance metrics, and 3) engaging the community in designing and implementing community-based Cancer Care Delivery Research (CCDR) experiments that test interventions aimed at improving performance for all providers in the network. The network is comprised of 30+ patient partners and 75 stakeholder partners representing the majority of oncology practices, as well as public and private health insurers in Washington State. The network serves as a valuable and unique resource for generating pilot data and testing promising interventions that could benefit the community in partnership with commercial and industry collaborators.

Job Summary

The Research and Regional Collaborations Manager will work closely with the HICOR Directors and senior program staff to oversee all aspects of the Value in Cancer Care Initiative research portfolio, performance reporting projects, and regional engagement activities within the VCC network of care delivery systems. This position bridges scientific and community engagement arenas, requiring knowledge of cancer care delivery research study design and implementation, as well as knowledge of the clinical and private sector context for CCDR in the community. The ideal candidate is a strong strategic thinker who can engage substantively in the “big picture” issues of maintaining and growing the VCC Initiative, while also effectively managing daily project and research operations.

The Manager will be responsible for general project management tasks such as timeline development and implementation, progress monitoring, internal and external program communications, and budget monitoring. The Manager will be responsible for developing and maintaining comprehensive policies and procedures for carrying out the goals of the VCC Initiative such as management of access to the network for research opportunities, soliciting community feedback for VCC initiatives, and the facilitation of communication between community partners and HICOR/Fred Hutch researchers. This position is responsible for planning and developing content such as research protocols, reports, and community engagement materials for the VCC Initiative’s clinical and patient partner networks.

Responsibilities
Serve as liaison with VCC Initiative stakeholders and collaborators, including executive level project sponsors. Represent the Initiative to other Center departments and funding sources. Establish and maintain productive working relationships with key program players. Seek and develop positive and effective relationships with partner organizations and collaborators.
Coordinate design, launch and implementation of all research projects that utilize the VCC network of regional cancer care delivery systems. Work closely with faculty and senior project staff to define project requirements, scope of work, staffing needs, organization, and approach. Respond to dynamic nature of the VCC Initiative portfolio, adjusting project priorities as the portfolio evolves.
Develop reports to effectively communicate the status of VCC Initiative projects and activities to program leadership. Identify, communicate and problem-solve roadblocks or other issues. Identify and bring to the attention of program leadership any barriers to and/or new opportunities for progress.
Help connect project ideas generated from within the VCC network with faculty interests and funding opportunities. Coordinate funding proposals.
Work independently to manage daily operations of the VCC Initiative, including creating discrete research project plans and timelines, managing deliverables, and hiring and supervision of project staff as needed.
Serve as point of contact for the annual life cycle of the Value in Cancer Care Summit
Organize and facilitate regular status meetings with project teams, preparing and distributing minutes, agendas and other materials as needed.
Develop scientific correspondence, substantive reports, project summaries, and other documents for a variety of constituents and purposes (sponsors, scientists, potential partners and others).
Coordinate the submission of study results, articles, and manuscripts for publication, writing portions of articles/manuscripts as required.
In consultation with PI(s), prepare non-scientific portions of regulatory applications/submissions; prepare portions of applications as necessary. Manage renewal timelines and ensure completion of regulatory documents in a timely manner.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications

BA/BS in related field required.
Minimum of five years post-master's or seven years post-bachelor's progressively responsible research management experience.
Experience related to CCDR, such as outcomes research, health economics, evidence-based medicine, guideline adherence, health technology assessment, or cost-effectiveness analysis is a plus.
Proactive management style; including ability to work independently and confidently with senior scientists and executives.
Ability to collaborate and facilitate a variety of stakeholder groups, regardless of organizational authority.
Thorough timeline management and prioritization skills. Professional written and oral communication and presentation skills to convey complex situations in a clear, concise manner.
Proven ability to mobilize and motivate teams; set direction and approach; resolve conflict; coach performance; deliver tough messages with grace; execute with limited information and ambiguity.
Proven ability to quickly earn the trust of sponsors and key stakeholders; empathetic and creative manager able to listen to, understand and proactively plan to address partner interests and concerns.
Desired Qualifications

MA/MS/MPH or PMP Certification desired.
