Provides support to the underwriting function through customer service and processing.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Contacts broker for additional/missing underwriting information.
Rates new business opportunities.
Issues quotes and processes binders on behalf of the Underwriters.
Analyzes policy issuance instructions from Underwriters. Completes forms with required information. Refers any discrepancies to Underwriters.
Issues policy based on instructions provided by Underwriters. Reviews forms to be attached for accuracy and attaches any state amendatory endorsements.
Assists Underwriters with the preparation and updating of various underwriting documentation.
Orders risk control inspection if requested by Underwriter.
Updates policy information databases.
During the policy term, analyzes and processes endorsement(s) and/or other changes as instructed by the Underwriters. If necessary, calculates premium adjustments for premium bearing charges.
Responds to internal and external client inquiries.
Reviews loss information.
Organizes and maintains policy files. Reviews files, records and other documents, as needed.
Develops strong working relationships with counterparts at agent and broker offices.
Runs reports as necessary.
Performs research on issues and analyzes data.
Continues to increase underwriting knowledge and skills through formal education.
Performs other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of the underwriting process and of casualty coverage and required forms/endorsements.
Rating skills a plus.
Strong computer skills (Excel|Word|SharePoint) with demonstrated high accuracy output.
Strong problem solving, reasoning, and decision making skills.
Excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks while meeting established deadlines.
Ability to demonstrate planning and organizational skills.
Proven team player and energetic personality.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / CERTIFICATIONS
College degree or equivalent work experience as an Underwriting Assistant with demonstrated involvement in insurance industry education.
Physical demands are considered to be that of an office environment, climate controlled, with minimal physical exertion.This position requires prolonged sitting, ability to utilize a computer and interactions with others in meetings or via phone.
