The Department of Germanic Studies in the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Maryland invites applications from candidates for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning August 2019. Applicants with specialization in environmental humanities from any period of modern German literature and culture are strongly encouraged to apply. Background in digital humanities and/or media ecology is a plus. The successful candidate will be expected to teach four courses per year and to take a leading role in program building, both within the Department and through interdisciplinary initiatives in SLLC and across the university.

Qualified candidates will demonstrate recognized potential for excellence in scholarship and academic leadership in German Studies, as well as interest and experience in teaching German language and culture courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Native or near-native fluency in both German and English is required. PhD must be in hand at time of employment. The Department of Germanic Studies and the School of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures are committed to increasing the diversity of the campus community.
