Lourdes Cardiology Services/Health Management Services Organization Title: Registered Nurse-Cardiology Exemption Status: Non- exempt Department: Heart Failure Revised Date: October 2015 Reports To: Office Manager or Nursing Supervisor Job Summary: The Registered Cardiology Nurse is responsible for assisting in the examination and treatment of heart failure patients under the direction of the physician/and or physician assistant. This individual examines the patients in collaboration with other health care professionals. Summary of Accountabilities: 1. Triage all phone calls by patients and answer questions/solve problems within the realm of their ability and training. 2. Be available for urgent visits by patients. 3. Receive and review critical lab values and manage per physician and/or nurse practitioner instruction. · 4. Place IV's and deliver intravenous diuretics as needed. 5. Obtain and review relevant medical records to effectively implement patient care management 6. Maintain inventory control of departmental medications 7. Administer patient education to inpatients as requested by physician 8. Provide education to RN's and LPN's in the other offices as it pertains to cardiovascular care. 9. Work with Physician and/or Nurse Practitioner during his/her office hours to provide patient education, medications, write prescriptions and answer questions. 10. Review and distribute labs received electronically 11. Provide coverage to Lourdes Cardiology Heart Failure Centers as needed 12. Ability to interact professional and appropriately with staff, patients, physicians and management. 13. Other duties as required Minimum Certifications, Registry and/or Licenses Required: - NJ Board Certification as an R.N. - BLS certified Minimum Degree Required/Experience Required: 1) Bachelor's degree or Associates degree and national board certification as a nurse. 2) 5+ years of experience in Cardiology. 3) Familiarity with concepts, practices, and procedures related to the care of patients. 4) Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. 5) Strong listening and verbal skills. 6) Ability to work as a ""team"" with physician, nurse practitioner, and technologists. 7) Consistent communication with physician(s) with any patient issues/concerns. 8) Excellent computer skills. 9) Ability to work independently. 10) Ability to learn new skills and innovative technology. Skill Requirements: Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, patients, hospital departments, organizations and the public. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to draw blood and administer injections. Knowledge of sterile techniques and proper technique for blood specimen collection, preparation, storage and delivery. Ability to perform diversified duties with a high degree of accuracy. Good command of the English language both orally and written. Working Relationships: Medical Providers Patients/Families/Visitors Administrators and Office Staff Hospital Employees Outside Vendors Environmental Conditions: Interior office setting, examination rooms, etc. The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions Potential exposure to blood and body fluids.
