Become a Corporate Giving, Advisor at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you’ll develop the strategic and programmatic needs related to the company’s civic engagement grant portfolio and corporate nonprofit board placement program. You will be responsible for independently reviewing and approving grants up to $10,000 and providing funding recommendations for all grants, nonprofit board placements and charitable sponsorships to senior leadership. You will manage and monitor large and/or long-term projects with nonprofit partners as well oversee charitable contribution sponsorships and the nonprofit board placement program. Maintain a strong community network to develop and manage localized, high impact/high visibility community and external engagement strategies in partnership with external-facing OUs. You will provide strategic counsel to senior level leaders, employees and communicators to enhance existing philanthropic programs, engage employees in giving back, support communities throughout the service territory and increase the company’s brand and reputation as a corporate citizen and leader. You will develop and deliver presentations and lead trainings to key internal and external partners in support of the company’s philanthropic strategy and engagement as well as supporting media/business resiliency related activities. - Manages a diverse portfolio of civic engagement grantees through the company’s grantmaking program (approximately $3.5 million budget). Duties include corresponding and advising nonprofits seeking funding and nonprofit board members, reviewing 250+ proposals, program outcomes, measurements and financials. Conduct site visits and due diligence on current and potential grantees to prepare grant recommendations, evaluate progress and impact reports.
- Provide support to grantmaking team as needed with respect to the other funding portfolios.
- Serves as a primary contact for internal partners, grantees in the portfolio, along with key community partners, nonprofit networks and funders.
- Attends various external meetings, events and conferences to represent the Corporate Philanthropy team in the community to develop and maintain organizational visibility and accessibility.
- Handles charitable sponsorship opportunities to provide the company with branding/recognition benefits and drive key messages on strategic priorities.
- Educate and brief company representatives in advance of charitable sponsored events and supports partner and external engagement plans.
- Lead the collaboration with internal departments and cross-functional teams to support external engagement and signature program related events, communications and impact analysis.
- Support key philanthropy projects and events by developing, implementing and leading project teams, program charters, project plans, communications plans, budget management and lessons learned to ensure all work is completed within scope.
- Develop and implement strategic plans and provide strategic counsel to senior leaders, employees and communicators to enhance existing grantmaking efforts.
- Supports assigned projects including tracking OU allocations, the collection of data, compilation of reports, and analysis of grants and external engagement activities.
- Benchmark with investor owned utilities and best in class corporations to streamline and grow grantmaking and employee engagement strategies.
- Stays up to date on developments in the corporate philanthropic and nonprofit sectors that impact the company’s grantmaking and monitors issues, standard methodologies, trends, and developments related to the sectors.
- Serve as a subject matter expert to identify and support storytelling and content development that can be used by a variety of communication channel owners.
- Support outreach and engagement activities within and outside of SCE by preparing presentations, events and corporate philanthropy related content to partners/audiences.
- Strategic direction and design of Corporate Contributions programs and projects.
- Make recommendations and approvals for grants.
- Details related to major nonprofit partnerships e.g. United Way/Energy Assistance Fund (EAF).
- Prioritize/details related to nonprofit board placement strategies and engagement events/opportunities.
- Provides functional direction and oversight to analysts (APP3 and APP2) supporting Employee Engagement and Giving programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned in support of philanthropy strategy and implementation.
- Working after hours during community events, emergencies or crises to support company-wide reputation and communication efforts.
Qualifications
The essentials
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Nonprofit or Public Administration, Business, or related field.
- Seven years of experience with leading and supporting programs, projects or campaigns.
- Experience in planning and managing enterprise-wide programs, projects and engagement plans.
- Experience in developing employee communications, storytelling, training and resources across multiple partners and platforms.
The preferred
- Master’s degree or other advanced degree in Communications, Nonprofit or Public Administration, Business, or related field.
- Project Management.
- Experience in developing and monitoring budgets, metrics and reports.
- Experience with managing corporate philanthropy, nonprofit or community relations programs or projects.
- Experience working with nonprofit and community-based organizations.
- Experience using grantmaking databases and employee engagement platforms.
- An effective collaborator and problem solver who knows how to network and build effective relationships across various company functions and units.
- Experience at engaging with all levels of the organization, including executives.
- Organized program manager who can balance and prioritize multiple/shifting deadlines and perform well under pressure.
- Strong communicator who speaks and writes with ease, transparency and impact.
- Demonstrated skill to lead others through influence and collaboration (program/project/campaign lead).
- Strong creative and problem-solving skills.
