This Research Associate position is specific to TGen North's Public Health Core. The employee will perform the more technical operations of the core, including protocol and methodology development, genomic data analysis, and molecular assay design. The employee will assist with project coordination and task management for a three- to six-person team of RAIs and interns under the direction of the Public Health Core lead scientist.
Plan, execute and manage experiments, evaluate/interpret results, devise solutions to problems utilizing detailed knowledge of research laboratory procedures and by consulting primary literature, and stay abreast of new products, techniques, and genomic data analysis methods.
Keep detailed logs of the experiments and report scientific findings through informal and formal reports, presentations, posters, and manuscripts under the direction of the scientist in charge.
Maintain and clean laboratory and equipment alongside other RAs and interns in a collaborative and proactive environment.
Mentor and manage students and instruct new and fellow employees on new technologies.
Bachelor's degree in a science-related field (Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Genetics) with more than five year post-grad experience; Experience with standard microbiology and molecular biology laboratory techniques and instrumentation such as thermal cyclers, spectrophotometers, centrifuges standard and real time PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, gel electrophoresis; Experience with standard computing applications such as Google Sheets or Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
Experience with Illumina and/or Oxford Nanopore sequencing instrumentation and methodologies, microbiomics, command line, and/or phylogenetic analysis techniques and applications is preferred but not mandatory.
