POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Bureau of Parks District 1 is currently seeking to hire two OPS Construction Specialists to work on a specific ADA boardwalk project at Big Lagoon State Park. Work will include: performing repairs, maintenance and construction to ADA standards of several boardwalks located in the park; as well as accurately preparing a variety of reports, logs and prioritized work lists. The incumbent of this position will operate a variety of maintenance equipment including, but not limited to: vehicles, trailers, power tools and hand tools. This position will also train and direct volunteers on safety and proper operation of equipment.

The typical work shift will be four (4) ten-hour (10hr) work days, Monday through Thursday, unless the crew is needed outside of those days. Typical work hours begin at 7:00am. Employees must be flexible to work outside of the typical hours when needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION:
Ability to maintain a class E driver license.
Knowledge of the principals and techniques of building trades.
Knowledge of and ability to follow current ADA standards.
Knowledge of general methods and techniques used in the repair and or maintenance of facilities.
Skill in the safe use of a variety of hand and power tools as well as skill in maintenance of this equipment.
Skilled in basic math computations.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Ability to deal with people in a positive manner and maintain good public relations.
Ability to establish and maintain good/effective working relationships with others.
Ability to work both as a team member and independently.
Ability to lift/carry 50lbs.
Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES FOR THE POSITION:
Knowledge of Florida Park Service Building Standards.
Minimum 6 months to 1 year of related experience.
Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
Ability to organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively using email, telephones, radios, etc.

HAZARDS AND/OR CAUTIONS

Working outside in Florida’s hot and humid environment.
Exposure to smoke, biting/stinging insects, venomous reptiles/insects, poisonous plants, etc.
