Sigman Veterinary Clinic is seeking a full time veterinary assistant to join our team. This position will require working with small animals (95%) and equines (5%). We are looking for a reliable, dependable, and compassionate person who is capable of multi-tasking and working in a fast paced environment. Working some Saturdays will be required.
Day to day care of hospitalized patients, boarders and facility: feeding, watering, walking, cleaning, laundry, bathing, monitoring pets’ general well-being, etc.
Effectively and safely restrain dogs and cats even when large and/or difficult.
Effectively and safely handle and restrain horses for exams and procedures in clinic and on farm calls including: jogging/lunging horses for lameness exams, taking radiographs, bandage applications, etc.
Fill out Coggins forms and handle appropriate lab samples.
Maintain inventory in vet truck.
Assist doctors and licensed technician in exam rooms, with treatments, and diagnostic procedures such as restraining for exams, blood draws and catheter placements; taking radiographs (both small animal and equine), prepping for surgeries, surgical patient monitoring, etc.
Dispensing and administering oral medications as directed.
Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. Will have assistance if lifting/carrying over 50 lbs.
Excellent client communication skills. Ability to maintain a positive attitude and cooperative working relationship with fellow staff members.
Minimum high school graduate
Required Work Experience:
Previous experience as a veterinary assistant is required and equine experience is preferred.
