Install, repair and perform preventive maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and related systems at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Perform semi-skilled to skilled repairs and preventive maintenance to heating and air conditioning equipment, both chilled water systems and direct expansion equipment. Provide lead direction to other building maintenance workers. Complete all associated paperwork.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma/GED required, preferably with college level or trade school HVAC courses and five years of experience or an Associate’s Degree and three years of experience. Experience should be in installing, repairing and maintaining HVAC equipment. Working knowledge of other building trades required. Must have and maintain a North Carolina State Contractor’s license H1, H2 or H3 and Universal CFC certification.

Salary: $61,998/year

Conditions of Employment:
First shift hours of work are typically 7:00am - 3:30pm, Monday - Friday. Subject to 24-hour emergency calls back to work for urgent situations and inclement weather. Shift subject to change. Must be available to work a rotating weekend and holiday duty schedule. Valid driver’s license with no more than 6 points and the ability to obtain and maintain a City driving permit. Certain convictions will disqualify individuals from unescorted access privileges and therefore exclude from employment.

The City’s Background Check Policy requires background checks to be conducted on final internal or external candidate(s) applying for any position with the City of Charlotte. The type of information that will be collected as part of a background check includes, but is not limited to: reference checks, social security verification, education verification, criminal conviction record check, and, if applicable, a credit history check, sex offender registry and motor vehicle records check.

Background checks must be in compliance with all federal and state statutes, such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). The checks must be consistent with the guidelines set forth by these laws requiring organizations to obtain a candidate’s written authorization before obtaining a criminal background report, motor vehicle records check or credit report; and to properly store and dispose of information derived from such reports.

Final candidates must pass a pre-employment drug-screening test and physical examination. During the selection process, candidates may be asked to take a skills test, and/or participate in other assessments.
