The financial analyst consultant is a role that owns the financial modeling of P&L for a large group business segment at Blue Shield of California. Successful performance requires cross functional coordination to ensure accuracy of financial results as well as to identify and communicate key business insights. Key business partners include underwriting, actuarial, sales, account management, project management, and accounting, among others.
General expectations of a Consultant in Finance:
Develop financial models; collect and evaluate data, analyze results. Provide assessment of issues, perspective on results, and recommendations.
Summarize key analytic concepts, methodologies, and results for audiences of varying level of analytic understanding. Present to Senior Management.
Problems and issues faced are numerous, and typically undefined where information is difficult to obtain. Conducts extensive investigation, critical thinking to understand root cause of problems. Problems span a wide range of difficult and unique issues across functions and/or businesses. Develops new perspectives and innovative approaches on existing or new problems. Applies agile methods.
Provides measurable input into new products, processes, standards and/or operational plans that will have an impact on the achievement of overall CFO Organization results.
Develop reports in accordance with business unit needs and run monthly production processes on an agreed upon schedule.
Reconcile data results from different sources and combine them into integrated reports spanning cost, quality, utilization, and risk profile metrics.
Ascertain insights and identify areas of concern from monthly reports.
Communicate key and significance of findings to stakeholders.
Critically review and revise existing analytical processes for currency, efficiency, and sufficiency. Identifies existing inefficiencies and problems and acts to implement solutions
Prioritize work and work enhancement requests while providing key deliverables to stakeholders in a timely manner.
Consult and coordinate with analysts in other departments to reconcile analytical approaches.
Research and respond timely and accurately to customer (internal and external) inquiries.
Implements strategic goals established by Financial leadership.
Responsible for proactively improving upon existing processes and systems using significant conceptualizing, reasoning and interpretation. Results may serve as precedent for future decisions.
Requires ability to communicate with executive leadership regarding matters of significant importance to the organization.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Possess the process knowledge and people skills to complete accurate assignments and communicate results.
Requires deep level knowledge of Finance and Accounting typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. May have deep knowledge of project management.
Typically, requires a college degree or equivalent experience and minimum 7 years of prior relevant experience.
Demonstrated advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel (Pivot Tables, VLookups), Word, Access, and PowerPoint.
May have relevant industry certifications or licenses (e.g., Certified Treasury Professional).
Experience with specific systems key to the role (e.g., Oracle, Essbase)
Office Environment - roles involving part to full time schedule in Office Environment. Based in our physical offices and work from home office/deskwork – Activity level: Sedentary, frequency most of work day.
