DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION: Development and support of Oracle Flash Storage System Hardware.


Work on the team responsible for development, integration, testing, and debug of current and future storage system hardware. Day-to-day activity will include creation and maintenance of automated test tools, test execution, and test report generation. This will involve scripting for interface to systems under test and with lab/ network/ Database infrastructure. Your role will be to exercise and test hardware using product software and test scripts that you develop, and provide support for these tools to the rest of the hardware group. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in EE fundamentals but has developed skills related to scripting, automation, and Database use. The position will involve a significant amount of hands-on lab work with hardware and software engineers, but also include test planning and reporting, and generation of project status tracking and reporting for management.


Development and support of testing infrastructure and scripting to automate system and bench testing and storage/ archival and reporting of test results.

Specify and evangelize continuing improvement in software diagnostics for fault isolation and tolerance, high availability, and field problem investigation.

Plan, execute, and document component and system testing to identify, reproduce, and isolate HW/SW design bugs, and validate fixes.

Provide leadership and direction to team members both inside and outside of the HW group and Oracle.

Work with internal and external development and manufacturing partners, including validation of production and manufacturing test procedures. Duplicate manufacturing test capabilities in our lab where appropriate.

Provide hardware lab support for other development organizations.


BSEE/ MSEE with 4 or more years hands-on experience with electrical/ computer hardware development from concept to mass production. Networking experience required, and SAN/ NAS storage experience desired.

Experience with x86 architecture and subsystems including familiarity with memory and IO controllers and processor architecture. Experience with system bus and IO technologies including DDR4 DRAM, PCI-Express, I2C, Infiniband, and SAS.

Technology – HW and SW Experience with x86 architecture and subsystems including familiarity with memory, strong background in EE, testing infrastructure, design tests for automation side, , familiarity with Networking/ TCP/IP, and Storage based on flash on and rotating media.

Some experience scripting with Bash and Perl. Experience with system bus and IO technologies including DDR4 DRAM, PCI-Express, I2C, Infiniband, and SAS, Linux experience preferred. Experience with or desire to work in Cloud Storage.

Experience with storage devices based on flash and rotating media.

Experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.

Experience with script languages and associated infrastructures such as Bash and Perl.

Some Linux experience preferred.

Database/ SQL experience desired.

Experience with or desire to work in Cloud Storage.

Detailed Description and Job Requirements

Evaluates reliability of materials, properties and techniques used in production; plans, designs and develops electronic parts, components, integrated circuitry, mechanical systems, equipment and packaging, optical systems and/or DSP systems.

Responsible for designing, developing, modifying and evaluating electronic, electro-mechanical or mechanical components, assemblies or integrated circuitry for hardware systems for the external market. Includes new design, as well as modification activities that results in significant product enhancement. Activities encompass design, analysis, testing and process development using engineering principles and methods. Technical disciplines may include electrical and logical design of printed circuit boards or integrated circuits; mechanical design of electronics enclosures or integrated circuit packaging; and embedded software/firmware design.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex needing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. 4 years of engineering or related experience.
