Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking a Systems Engineering Manager to join our diverse team, working on the ground systems engineering effort for the COAST II program in Redondo Beach, CA. The candidate selected will have a dual role: ~20% of full time will be as a functional manager (section manager) supporting ~10-15 NGMS employees who perform systems engineering and integration across the COAST II program, and ~80% of full time will be technical systems engineering support directly on the COAST II program as the Mission Thread Lead.
The Mission Thread Lead is responsible for the horizontal integration of efforts on the COAST program, with a focus on the end-to-end mission. The Mission Thread Lead will have responsibility for a set of capabilities and ensure that the design, implementation, and verification of those capabilities is defined such that it meets the overall mission objectives. The Mission Thread Lead will be involved in the evaluation of engineering change requests, assessing the changes and impacts from a mission perspective. The thread lead will also get involved in technical issues that affect the end-to-end mission, ensuring the issue's effect on the mission is understood and considered. The Mission Thread Lead will also be focused on identifying and taking advantage of synergies betweendevelopment programs, operational sites, and COAST.
The Mission Thread Lead will also at times be the lead for engineering change proposals, which would involve tasks such as: authoring TD/BOEs and proposal development, submission, capture, and negotiations for proposals; and development of CROMs. The Mission Thread Lead will be interfacing frequently with internal and external stakeholders, including cross-program counterparts, Tech Support, and the customer. Additional responsibilities include planning, risk management, MAR development, and project performance. The Mission Thread Lead will report programmatically to the manager of systems integration/operations engineering (SI&OE) and will work closely with the COAST II PM and Deputy PM. The Mission Thread Lead will also support overall COAST II staffing and will assist with program metrics in support of the IPRS process.
As a section manager, this position reports functionally to the Mission Systems Space Park SEIT department manager. Section manager responsibilities include:
Functional oversight for a team of systems engineers of varied disciplines
Staffing and workload forecast; employee inclusion, engagement, mentoring and career development; employee training and identification and training of skills required to execute on programs.
Recruiting, sourcing, onboarding, and performance management
Supporting ES&T initiatives and activities.
Ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal, leadership, communication, and organizational skills and professional development/mentoring skills. Demonstrated ability to implement process improvements, streamline activities, and develop efficiencies. Ideal candidates will have a proven technical background in ground system design, systems engineering, security certifications, and requirements development and verification. Ideal candidates will take initiative and be a proven problem solver. Previous M1 domain ground system experience and site experience highly desirable. Active SCI clearance required.
Bachelor's of Sciencedegree in Computer Science, Math, or Engineering with a minimum of 10 years of Engineering experience
3 years of experience leading a team of 5 or more systems engineers (or other relevant skill set) in deliverables and processes
Active SCI clearance
