The Software Engineer Level I, under the direction and guidance of the Director of Software Development is responsible for assisting with the planning, design, implementation, and support of software projects for Trinity Logistics and its leaders, Team Members, agents, customers, and carriers.
Software engineering covers all facets of custom software development and the software development life cycle (SDLC). This includes planning, collaboration, design, prototyping, server software configuration, optimization, construction (coding), testing (unit/load/acceptance), database design, implementation, product launch, maintenance, refactoring, and support.
The Software Engineer Level I will also work with senior staff and leadership in the development of better practices regarding code quality, application performance, quality assurance, monitoring, metrics, support, and documentation.
This position will work closely with the entire Technology team and provide support to the service desk in response to service tickets, delivering a quick response and resolution of reported support items. This position will report to the Director of Software Development.
Develop features across multiple applications and subsystems, including collaboration in requirement definitions with end users, prototyping, design, coding, testing, and deployment.
Understand how Trinity’s applications operate, are structured, and how users operate with the applications.
Provide engineering support (when necessary) to our technical operations staff when they are building, deploying, configuring, and supporting systems for the users.
Participate with the engineering and operations teams to define plans for standardizing, scaling, and enhancing our systems and the services to deploy and release new software.

Education: BA/ BS (4-year degree) with a technical major such as engineering or computer science preferred.
Experience: One or more years of software development experience or equivalent education strongly preferred.
Database: MySQL and MS SQL experience strongly preferred with a clear understanding of normalization, data structures, and SQL queries.
Ability to define solutions, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Proficient organizational skills, with the ability to effectively manage and execute multiple projects at a time.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Participates in training, continuing education, or continuous improvement as approved by your manager.
Some travel required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This job operates in a physical office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands, arms and fingers to handle and lift objects up to 20 pounds. Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advanced notice. This is an optional telecommuting position subject to management approval.
