Microbac is seeking an entry level Associate Scientist for the Virology department within our laboratory located in Sterling, VA. This is an entry level laboratory position that requires a degree in an applied science. The primary function of the role involves preparing for and performing virological and microbiological assays on a variety of sample types. Previous laboratory experience is preferred but not required. This is a full-time position with base pay starting at $15.40/hour and benefits.

Essential Function:
Supports the operations of the laboratory through performing basic/routine, entry level laboratory activities such as, or related to, sample and test preparation, maintaining cell cultures, virus titration and propagation, and performing routine laboratory maintenance under FDA and EPA Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) guidelines.

Job Responsibilities:
Perform virological and/or microbiological evaluations of assigned samples according to standardized procedures and instructions
Prepare necessary standards, solutions, media, reagents, etc.
Maintain cell cultures
Prep samples for efficacy testing
Perform basic virology protocols
Gather appropriate materials and equipment
Participate in the setup, dismantling and maintenance of laboratory equipment
Accurately record data and observations.

Required Skills:
Must possess the ability to accurately follow written and verbal instruction
Must possess the ability to work well within the framework of a team
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, microbiology or a related field of study required
Previous laboratory experience in cell culture, microbiology, or molecular biology preferred, but not required
Position requires attention to detail and strong work ethic.
