What you’ll be doing...
Verizon is seeking an experienced, energetic, talented attorney to join its Legal team supporting Verizon’s Technology and Product Development organization, including Verizon’s 5G Labs and emerging technology teams (e.g., augmented reality, virtual reality, computer vision, edge computing), as well as Verizon’s strategic innovation partnerships in media, sports, and retail.
The ideal candidate is a technology and business-minded attorney with product development experience who can manage day-to-day legal support for dynamic technologists, and demonstrates a capacity and curiosity for learning a wide variety of new technologies and areas of law. The candidate must have sound business and legal judgment, thrive in a fast-paced collaborative environment, and demonstrate an ability to provide both pragmatic and proactive legal advice.
Learn and understand new products/solutions under development, and effectively communicate identified legal risks with technical nuance.
Partner with technology, marketing, sponsorship, sales, and others to develop and launch innovative products and solutions that will deliver the promise of the digital world to our customers.
Provide guidance and support on legal matters relating to software and hardware development, platforms, products and services, including identification of security, privacy, and intellectual property topics, collaboration with legal and business subject-matter experts, and recommendation of the path forward.
Draft and negotiate a wide range of contracts (including technology agreements, license agreements, strategic non-disclosure agreements, customer and vendor agreements, trial agreements) to drive new initiatives with startups, technology companies, and media companies.
Assess legal issues associated with product development and go-to-market efforts, and engage with subject matter experts and stakeholders to address those issues.
Drive new efficiencies by using and understanding existing legal processes and clearance workflows to effectively advise on and suggest practical improvements.
Identify and manage intellectual property issues associated with software and hardware development, including IP ownership, joint and independent development, client training, and risk mitigation.
Assist in fact-gathering and analysis of existing and proposed rules, regulations and laws to support public policy and regulatory efforts on issues relevant to new product and business development.
Work and communicate effectively with colleagues across the company to drive product development and commercial launches.
What we’re looking for...
You'll need to have:
JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience
Bar membership and needed licenses.
Willingness to travel.
Even better if you have:
A degreein electrical, computer, software or other engineering or computer science.
Experience with federal and state privacy laws, telecommunications regulations, product development, intellectual property law, media, industry consortia, and/or marketing and consumer law.
Three or more years of experience in-house at a technology company or in private practice handling transactions or litigation relating to technology and software development.
Experience working with teams.
