The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes across the State of Maryland. Nature of Work: The MDTA is seeking a dynamic advanced accounting professional to oversee the reconciliation of complex accounting actions which support the integrity of MDTA financial statements. As our General Ledger (GL) Manager, you would be responsible for managing all general ledger accounts and leading a team of accounting professionals tasked with actions related to accounting project management, Corporate Purchasing Cards (PCARDS), Capital Assets, Accounts Payable, the automation of financial software systems and User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and other related MDTA Division of Finance responsibilities. This position is also responsible for documenting and revising accounting procedures to ensure proper internal controls within the division.
The duties and responsibilities of this position also include, but are not limited to, the following:
Ensure that decisions concerning significant general ledger accounting policies can be defended before higher level officials and auditors;
Verify that accrual journal entries for year-end are made in Microsoft Dynamics SL;
Audit preparation and response to Public Information Acts (PIA) requests;
Manage and review the monthly reconciliation of significant balance sheet accounts;
Oversee hiring and training of staff within Accounts Payable (AP), Construction and Consulting Invoice Control (CCIC), General Ledger (GL) and Purchasing (PCARDS) sections of the Division of Finance; and
Ensure departmental practices are compliant with established policies and legal requirements.
Employees in this classification will receive direct supervision from the Financial Reporting Manager and/or the Director of General Accounting. The current vacancy is in Baltimore, Maryland.

Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with 30 credit hours in Accounting and related courses, including or supplemented by three credit hours in auditing.
Experience: Seven (7) years of experience examining, analyzing, interpreting, and maintaining accounting systems, preparing financial reports and statements by applying generally accepted accounting principles. Experience must include three years of duties in the areas of cost accounting, systems accounting, federal fund accounting or bond and loan accounting and one (1) year of supervising other employees. ** Three (3) years of experience must involve the regular use of Microsoft Dynamics SL.

1. Applicants who have met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974 will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.
2. Possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Master's degree in accounting from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required general accounting experience.
3. Applicants may substitute one year of professional auditing experience for one year of general accounting experience.
4. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
