The Aquatics Coordinator oversees all Aquatics programs and operations at assigned indoor and/or outdoor pool(s), primarily overseeing Goodson Recreation and Holly pools. Responsibilities include maintaining safe environments for staff and customers; lifeguard training; instructional learn-to-swim lessons; staff hiring and scheduling; special event coordination, pool maintenance; coordinating parties; facility rentals, concessions operations; and budget planning and reporting.

Job Requirements Supervision Received:
The Aquatics Coordinator reports directly to and is under the supervision of the Aquatics Manager in the Recreation Department.

Supervisory Duties:
Directs and supervises the daily work activities of part-time pool employees including Pool Managers, Swim Instructors, Lifeguards, Party Hosts, Swim Coaches, Cashiers, Concessions Workers, and volunteer aides. Leads and facilitates staff meetings on a regular basis. Administers and adheres to all District policies

Essential Duties:
Oversees pool facilities, operations, and programming with a strong focus on safety, customer satisfaction, staff productivity, facility maintenance and cleanliness.

Regularly organizes and conducts lifeguard and swim instructor staff meetings, in-service trainings, emergency drills, and facility walk-throughs.

Maintains status of all required staff certifications.

Resolves issues pertaining to changing staffing needs, equipment maintenance and repairs, and/or other urgent needs at assigned pool facilities. This may also occur before or after the pool's regular hours of operation.

Functions as lifeguard or head-lifeguard and conducts swim lessons and instruction as needed.

Responsible for hiring staff, training, documenting performance, counseling and commending personnel on performance, completing performance reviews, and incorporating disciplinary measures as needed.

Trains and orients new staff members to the District's Aquatics programs and pool environment(s) including an emphasis on safety; opening and closing procedures; proper storage of equipment and supplies; and general pool rules.

Performs scheduling and onsite supervision of staff for all assigned pool facility activities such as lifeguarding, lessons, private lessons, parties, rentals, special events, and programs.

Provides superior customer service and strives to create a positive customer experience to promote on-going and repeat business. Works to resolve any escalated customer concerns and/or complaints.

Oversees collection and handling of all monies for programs and activities and ensures that monies are collected and handled according to District policy. Maintains all financial records and performs reporting.

Completes all daily maintenance, incident/accident reports, and inventory logs according to District procedures in a timely manner.

Maintains proper pool chemical levels at all times in compliance with local, state, and national standards including keeping accurate records of chemical readings.

Responsible for purchasing pool supplies and equipment as needed and for keeping accurate inventories.

Works closely with maintenance and custodial personnel to ensure safety and proper pool operations and overall cleanliness.

Remains actively visible and engaged with staff and customers in the facility during open hours of operation. Evening and weekend working hours are required on a regular basis.

In conjunction with Supervisor, participates in the budget development process for Aquatics programs and adheres to established budget.

Assists Supervisor in the development of marketing, program planning, and catalog preparation. Works with Communications staff in this effort. Promotes community awareness of the pool facility activities and special events and evaluates customer satisfaction.

Reviews and approves employee biweekly timesheets. Works with Payroll Department to resolve any compensation issues.

Continuously evaluates pool facilities and makes recommendations for improvements to the efficiency and effectiveness of communication, service delivery, expanding opportunities, and physical improvements.

Drives a District motor vehicle to various District facilities and events.

Completes all other duties and projects as assigned.

May serve as an Emergency services worker.

Complies with District and departmental rules and regulations, policies and procedures.

Additional Information Education: A minimum of two (2) years of vocational or trade school training in a Recreation Program field. A Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Management, or a closely related field preferred.

Experience: A minimum of two (2) years related Aquatics and Recreation service experience and customer service. One (1) year of experience in a supervisory or lead capacity.

A combination of experience and education may be considered.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be highly motivated and take direction well with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Knowledge of: the general philosophy of aquatics and recreation and its application; facility operations management; safety and emergency first-aid procedures; customer service principles; establishing and maintaining healthy pool water; pump and filtration operations and chemical feeding equipment; planning and organization of aquatics instruction and water safety programs; and budget planning and management.

The ability to successfully: establish and maintain safe and fun pool environments; work evenings and weekends and some holidays ; work productively without supervision within established policies and procedures; provide superior customer service and resolve customer complaints and escalated problems; effectively manage employees; handle cash-flow and daily cash reports with accuracy and proper handling in adherence to established procedures.

Ability to: safely extricate people from a pool who vary in weight, with or without assistance, at any time; react effectively to all potential mental, physical, and stressful situations inherent to the duties of a First Responder; hear noises either naturally or with electronic auditory assistance equivalent to that of normal conversation up to 30 meters away. Must have 20/20 vision or 20/20 vision corrected by eyeglasses or contact lenses.

Skilled in: swimming, lifeguarding, and lifesaving procedures and instruction; water safety programs; recruiting, supervising, training, evaluating and motivating employees.

Required Certifications: CPO or AFO, American Red Cross LG and WSI.

Preferred Certifications: LGI, LGIT,or WSIT

Driving Requirements: This position is required to drive a District motor vehicle to various District facilities and events. Must possess a valid Colorado Driver License or have the ability to obtain upon hire and maintain an acceptable driving record.

The ability to successfully complete a background check including and not limited to criminal history and motor vehicle record check is required.

Work Hours and Days:
Required workweek - 4 weekdays and either Saturday or Sunday. Work hours may vary seasonally or as needed to complete work. Occasional holidays, evenings, and on-call schedule may be required.
