The production supervisor is responsible for the daily efficiency output of the machining cells. This role oversees and coordinates the activities of workers engaged in manufacturing processes: Machine operators, CNC Technicians.

The production supervisor reports to the IPE manager as a function of the role’s job duties, interacts with all the other members of the IPE and other company functions.

The production supervisor main targets/duties are:

  • Ensures the production schedule is followed without exception throughout the shop floor
  • Scheduled quantities and mix are produced daily meeting Quality requirements.
  • Assigns associates to required work cells and stations, based on experience and skillset levels.
  • Ensures that all Safety and Quality standards are met.
  • Ensuring that at each working cells there are the materials needed during the scheduled shifts.
  • Ensures that efficiency targets of the IPE are met without exception.

The production supervisor monitors the trend of production and reacts in case corrective actions are needed; these can include: support from CNC Technicians to the machine operators; support from Maintenance to fix equipment problems; root-cause analysis in case any Quality problem occurs.


  • The main task of the Production Supervisor is to supervise and coordinate the activities of production employees. This includes ensuring that Machine Operators are assigned to the proper working cells, considering:

o Safety of all associates and Quality Standards are met.

o Production schedule for the current day/week.

o Skillsets of the machine operators working in the current shift

o Materials availability

o Equipment / Fixtures availability.

  • Ensures that all the KPIs reporting sheets/boards are properly compiled on a timely manner (production monitoring boards; downtime reports).
  • Ensures that all the parts in process are properly identified with Travelers and that such travelers are kept updated in a timely manner.
  • Ensures that machine operator execute the quality controls that are required by the Inspection Sheets.
  • Verifies that TPM and house-keeping activities are executed by Machine Operators.
  • Ensures that all Safety procedures are respected and intervenes in case any Safety-related problem occurs.
  • Performance reviews of the machine operators / CNC Technicians that report to him.

The production supervisor ensures that all activities and the ones of the people supervised are coherent with the main targets of the assigned IPE. These include:

  • Service Level
  • OEE (Overall Equipment Efficiency)
  • Manpower Efficiency
  • First Pass Yield
  • Overtime vs Standard time
  • WIP and Warehouse data accuracy
  • Overtime hours
  • Expenditures

Assist with other projects / duties as requested


Work is performed in a manufacturing environment.

Work is mainly performed while standing and requires walking back and forth from cells to cells and/or different areas of the plant. Work area may have uneven or slippery floor conditions.

Physical exertion may be required to lift up to 40 lbs. and transport up to a distance of 20 feet. Lifting in excess of 40 lbs. may occasionally be required with assistance.


  • Strong communication skills

  • Knowledge of:

o Lean manufacturing techniques (Kanban systems; 5S; Kaizen).

o TPM (Total Preventive Maintenance) techniques.

o Problem solving techniques.

o Principles of Quality control and Quality preventive actions.

o Knowledge of Manpower workload saturation techniques.

o Chemical hazards and safety precautions.

Familiarization with tools and equipment used in precision metal cutting:

o Micrometers,

o Gauges,

o Calipers,

o Dial indicators.

o Tools and angle heads


  • 3 – 5 years experience in supervising production personnel in a manufacturing environment possibly with all / most of the following machining centers: Lathes, Vertical Mills, Horizontal Mills, Broaches.

Salary: $70,000.00 to $75,000.00 /year
