Report to: Regulatory Affairs Manager – Performance Materials and Food
Location: Gurnee, Illinois
The Regulatory & Sustainability Specialist focuses on creation, maintenance and distribution of regulatory documents and information including product statements, form reviews, labels &, safety data sheet (SDS) development, and sustainability process data collection and implementation. This role deals with complexity and uncertainty in a dynamic business environment. This position requires handling a high work load, balancing conflicting priorities, performing work in a detailed and thorough manner, and actively pursuing knowledge of regulatory & sustainability requirements and how they impact Vantage™ systems and businesses. The individual contributor is expected to be able to continually learn and gain competency in this function to help the team drive optimization effectiveness of internal processes/procedures and best practices. This position will report to the Regulatory Affairs Manager – Performance Materials and Food, however will have responsibility to work collaboratively with the global regulatory and sustainability team to lead project specific efforts for sustainability activities across the corporation.
Ability to collect and organize technical facts and data related to sustainability and CSR, such as GHG, water, energy, carbon, etc. and present them clearly and concisely, both orally and in written reports.
Ensure product compliance, includes identify, troubleshoot and response regulatory data issues.
Manage and complete RFI (requests for information) from customers. This can include questionnaires, general letter drafting, and or phone conversations.
Update labels and safety data sheets in support of business activities.
Monitor internal request tracking tool for customer inquiries and look for opportunities to optimize efficiencies and workflow processes. This include driving documentation rationalization throughout the business units.
Support efforts for global registration compliance and monitoring, as well as risk assessment development for our products.
Establish strong working relationship with management, marketing, production, quality, safety, environmental, sourcing and R&D personnel.
Monitors and communicates changes in the regulatory and/or sustainability environment to colleagues and management.
BS or MS in Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science, Food Science, or relevant technical field.
Minimum 3 years industry experience in science role (chemistry, food science), regulatory affairs, product stewardship, quality assurance, or compliance roles in the industrial, personal care and/or food industries.
Basic understanding of GHS, TSCA, FSMA, REACH, DOT, and OSHA regulations.
Familiarity with sustainability programs such as Sedex, Ecovadis, RSPO, Fair for Life, etc.
Excellent verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong Attention to detail
Good recordkeeping skills
Ability to interface with internal and external contacts at all levels Demonstrated success being attentive to detail and accurate with complex information
Effective database and mainframe skills to support regulatory processing, including proficiency with Microsoft products Desirable
5-10 years of industry experience regulatory, sustainability or product stewardship.
Experience working on teams located in different regions of the world
Ability to identify opportunities for improvement and driving such changes.
Ability to identify opportunities for improvement (e.g. new programs/systems, training, requirements, etc.) and help the Vantage™ team to driving such changes.
Proven success working collaboratively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, as well as independently.
May travel up to 15% of the time to visit the other Vantage™ locations or attend conferences/ training.
