Franchise Business Consultant will provide consultative communication and assistance to franchisees in driving revenue, growth and business development while ensuring quality operations and system standards are maintained. The FBC will report to the Region Director and serve as the corporate liaison to franchisees.

The position will cover the Detroit area and the south western side of Michigan, as this role would also cover Chicago.

Essential Functions

· Foster a positive, proactive and honest relationship with Fantastic Sams franchisees and their staff.

· Identify and present solutions to operational issues and follows-up to ensure issues are resolved and desired results are achieved.

· Assess franchise operations and propose changes as it relates to the franchises’ business processes.

· Formulate, affect, interpret and implement Fantastic Sams policies and operating practices as it relates to providing consultation or expert advice to Fantastic Sams franchisees.

· Analyze the business metrics of their franchisees to understand where these franchise units are performing relative to appropriate benchmarks.

· Responsible for cultivating and growing the Fantastic Sams system by driving franchise owners and managers to increase sales volume and profitability.

· Implement training materials and provide on-going training and technical educational support.

· Ensures that each franchise unit meets the company standards for safety, hospitality, quality, service and cleanliness.

· Assures franchisees are opening new units effectively and meet or exceed the pre-opening performance.

· Ensures that each franchise unit is in compliance with their Franchise Agreement.

· Liaison between the marketing department, advertising co-ops, real estate development, company operations and the franchisees.


The key areas of responsibility include:

  • Evaluate quality of Salons
  • Evaluate Salon operations and coach franchisees to reach new targets
  • Measure business areas that can only be measured in person
  • Gather all measurements of a Salon and provide feedback/report to franchisees on a quarterly basis
  • Help franchisees set targets and hold them accountable - Consult / Manage / Coach / Prod franchisees to get them to do what they need to do to increase revenue and profitability
  • Track all measurements, reports, and consulting meetings and store on internal (Headquarters) system

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • This individual will possess the following qualifications and requirements:
  • 5+ years experience in field support with a franchise organization
  • Must have a cosmetology license
  • Ideal experience in franchise with a services focused solution
  • Strong consultative skills, with a history of working in a consultative function
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, as well as listening skills
  • Strong work ethic
  • Ability to multi-task, have strong organization skills, and be detail minded
  • Personality traits include: smart, friendly, outgoing, passion for our business, integrity, accountability, strong follow up, empathy, and committed
  • Passion for education and math a plus

Represent Fantastic Sams Headquarters

  • Create and maintain a professional and mutually respectful relationship with each franchisee in the area of responsibility
  • Visit each Salon in the area at least once each year
  • As new franchisees come on board, welcome them and serve as their connection to Fantastic Sams after Initial Training attendance, set the tone for relationship and future meetings; Within 1 week of initial training attendance, meet with each new franchisee in the area or responsibility
  • Assist new franchisee with Salon site selection, according to the guidelines set out in the Fantastic Sams Operating Manual

Proactive Support and Compliance

  • Reach out to franchisees in the area on a regular basis to “check-in”
  • When new systems are released, make sure that franchisees in the area are in-the-know and provide training/support as needed
  • As compliance list grows, ensure franchisees in the area are informed
  • When non-compliance items are found, work with franchisee to correct issue prior to escalating it, allotting appropriate time for correction
  • When not corrected, report non-compliance items to Director of Franchise Operations
  • When a Salon closes, make sure that sign is removed from building (if franchisee doesn’t remove it by deadline in termination notice, arrange for sign to be removed)
  • If a Salon in the area is performing poorly, work with the owner to encourage selling; contact Franchise Development Department to pursue locating a new buyer
  • Arrange and lead annual regional-based group training, working with the Director of Franchise Training (“Tune-Up Training”)
  • As appropriate, work with groups of geographically close franchisees to coordinate marketing efforts, and other group efficiency opportunities.

  • Keep a list (database) of each idea and suggestion made by franchisees in the area

  • Communicate with HQ at least once each month the ideas and suggestions; get feedback and report back to referring franchisee; if appropriate, report all ideas and HQ responses to franchisees
  • The quality of the information shared should reflect real listening and interaction with Franchisees as well as an understanding of the system.
