Under direction of the Associate Director of Development, and consistent with the departmental plans, the Senior Major Gifts Officer is responsible for implementing all aspects of the Major Gifts program including: identification, qualification, cultivation, stewardship, solicitation, and gift acknowledgement; development and implementation of plans for major donors (over $5,000) and for the Founders Circle donors (over $1,000); working with the Associate Director of Development to develop comprehensive plans for current and potential major donors; calendaring all projects and donor meetings/trips; and maintaining and expanding regional development programs and other major donor cultivation/acquisition initiatives.
· Work with Director of Development and Associate Director of Development to develop fundraising plans and create department goals.
· Manage a portfolio of current and potential major gift donors to execute the annual Development Plan and to reach departmental goals.
· Work with Associate Director of Development, program staff, and/or board members to implement major gift plans and initiatives.
· Qualify, cultivate and solicit current and potential major gift donors using moves management and donor-centered approaches.
· Develop and implement stewardship program for major gift donors.
· Conduct prospect research.
· Identify ways to attract new donors and increase giving among current donors.
· Plan meetings with tri-state and regional donors with assistance of development staff.
· Produce periodic stewardship updates on CCR’s work and may contribute to newsletter articles.
· Working with other members of the individual giving team, help plan, implement, and evaluate the annual spring thank you reception, A Splendid Body of Tigerish People, with emphasis on cultivation and stewardship of current and potential major gift donors.
· Work with Associate Director of Development to co-manage major gift donors who are members of the Thelma Newman Society, our planned giving program.
· Learn about advantages and other aspects of planned gifts such as current tax and other legal requirements impacting planned gifts.
· Travel to targeted cities several times a year.
· In coordination with Associate Development Director, manage all aspects of regional travel and planning for major gifts program including: arrange special events (for example, house parties), create invitations and invitation lists, arrange for appropriate development staff member to accompany program staffer, secure meeting appointments, develop plan for visit to qualify, cultivate, solicit, or steward current or potential major gift donors, and work with Donor Relations Associate to make travel arrangements and special event logistics.
· Work with Associate Development Director to identify possible events for lower level donors inside and outside of New York (i.e. donor breakfast in Bay Area).
· Contribute content to direct mail pieces, newsletter, receipt letter, annual report, and other written materials as needed; may be asked to edit/project manage one or more newsletters per year based on staffing availability, workload, and individualized professional development plans.
· Assist with events as needed.
· Train and support other development staff as needed.
· Participate in departmental and organizational planning and projects, and organization-wide committees, as designated.
· Assist with other departmental work as assigned by the Director of Development or Associate Director of Development.
· Minimum of five (5) years of development experience, with at least two of those years in major gifts; capital campaign experience a plus.
· Superior writing skills, including ability to translate technical legal work for a general audience.
· Database experience required; experience with Raisers Edge strongly preferred, CiviCRM a plus.
· Outstanding organizational and time management skills, including proven ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks and priorities under tight deadlines and in a fast-paced environment.
· Excellent problem-solving skills, including ability to anticipate problems and use judgement appropriately to plan solutions.
· Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
· Excellent written and interpersonal communications.
· Strong digital literacy, with proficiency in MS Office applications.
