Position: Safety Training Specialist

Department: Safety

Facility/Location: Plymouth Terminal/Plymouth, MI

Reports To: Director of Safety

Summary

Essential function is to conduct driver orientations and to make sure that all new and current company drivers have the adequate and proper training, the right tools and equipment, appropriate driver support systems, and a thorough understanding of company policies and procedures to perform all functions and duties of their job in a safe, legal, and professional manner before going out on the roadways

Responsibilities

  • Conduct new hire pre-employment road tests;
  • Conduct weekly new hire driver orientation classes;
  • Conduct onsite driver/vehicle safety inspections;
  • Monitor Lytx DriveCam events and counsel drivers on documented behaviors;
  • Monitor Hour of Service Violation Reports and counsel drivers on documented behaviors;
  • Monitor and Hours of Service Form and Manner Reports and counsel drivers on documented behaviors;
  • Cooperate with internal and external auditors to include periodic DOT and OSHA compliance audits;
  • Other responsibilities as may be assigned.

Skills

The Safety Training Specialist must posses the following primary skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication ability
  • Diplomacy in conflict situations and strong interpersonal skills
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Computer proficiency with primary MS Office products as well as the ability to learn other applications as may be necessary.

Experience

This position requires a minimum 2 years experience in a trucking operations/safety management role. Must possess a valid CDL “A” drivers License and DOT Medical Certificate.

Working Conditions

The working conditions will be varied to include a normal office environment, trucking terminal/drop yards and maintenance facilities. Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work. Occasional overnight and workday travel may be required. Riding with other commercial vehicle drivers may be required.
