Urbana University, a division of Franklin University, is accepting applications for a full time Campus Security Officer. Under the direction of the Coordinator of Campus Safety, the purpose of the position is to assist with the protection of life, property, and the prevention of crime. A campus security officer performs foot and vehicle patrols of the university campus to monitor behavior, secure buildings and property, investigate disturbances, maintain order during events and enforce regulations. They monitor the physical safety of campus buildings by locking and unlocking doors, patrolling or monitoring using surveillance systems, and reporting suspicious behavior.
The working hours are shift based, primarily first and second shifts, but variable days and hours depending on the needs of the University. The applicant must be able to provide successful certification or complete training in the following areas within six months; Armed Security Course- OPOTA, CPR, First Aid, AED usage and OJT- Field Training. This position requires the Campus Safety Officer to have the ability to physically travel the campus on foot.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide foot patrol and/or vehicle patrol of all university grounds and buildings
Respond to emergency situations and notify appropriate public safety authorities
Document information, complete written reports and file with the appropriate University officials as required
Work closely with the residence life staff and the Dean of Students regarding any student issues
Conduct periodic walk through of all occupied buildings
Check buildings, offices and grounds to ensure security of University assets
Provide student and employee safety escorts and assist stranded motorists
Operate the University safety vehicle or golf cart in a safe manner while patrolling campus grounds
Monitoring CCTV and alarm systems and respond to alerts
Serve as crowd control at special events
Lock and unlock campus buildings and offices as necessary
Maintains security controls for issued University keys; safeguards and controls issued University equipment.
Watches for and reports irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations
Remains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security code violators approaches suspicious persons and/or notifies police as appropriate;

High School graduate or GED
Ability to stay calm in stressful or emergency situations
Effective oral and written communication skills
Prior security related experience and/or training
Physically able to walk university grounds and stand for prolonged periods of time.
Ability to work with others in a team atmosphere
Ability to read and understand University rules, regulations and specific general orders applying to Campus Safety
Able to work weekends, nights to include overnight and holidays
Ability to work overtime for athletic or other special events
Unquestionable honesty and integrity
Outstanding inter personal skills and cultural sensitivity
Problem solving skills
Valid Ohio Driver’s License
