The division includes Facilities Planning & Management, Business Services, Budget, Human Resources, Information Technology Services and Police & Parking Services.

Position Summary
The Assistant Project Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Department of Planning & Construction with space management, planning activities and office space design, reviewing design and construction activities and assisting with developing specifications for procurement of construction services, furniture and signage. The Planning & Construction department is part of Facilities Planning & Management and is responsible for providing planning, design and construction services for 3.4 million GSF of buildings for the UW-La Crosse campus. The position will assist the UW-La Crosse project manager(s) in managing the design and construction of renovations, remodeling and new construction by directing the work of project architects/engineers, building construction representatives and campus staff to assure that the project reaches completion in accordance with approved programs, schedules and budgets. This position exercises considerable independent initiative and independent judgment in establishing daily priorities in activities and makes decisions involving space management planning and design with upper level agency representatives typically without the supervisor present. The Assistant Project Coordinator reports to the Associate Director of Planning and Construction. The ideal candidate will have the ability to multi task while maintaining fine attention to detail.

Required Qualifications
  • A degree in construction management, engineering or related field.
  • Hold and maintain a valid driver’s license, meeting the criteria for driving a state vehicle.
  • Knowledge of project proposal preparation and budget development.
  • Knowledge of project production, design and planning methodologies.
  • Skill in organization, evaluation and presentation.
  • Ability to work with colleagues across all areas of the university, from diverse backgrounds, specialties and knowledge bases.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships, conflict management, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Skills in AutoCAD, Excel, Word and Project for the design, drawing and management of construction projects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of a team with associates, subordinates, other agencies, the public, and customers.
  • Ability to interpret architectural project drawings.
  • Ability to create simple architectural drawings.
  • Ability to develop and create new ideas and methods that will assist the department in problem solving and improve the efficiency of the department’s operation.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in establishing daily priorities. Exercise project planning, project management, assignment, delegation, prioritization and organization skills.
  • Good working knowledge of computer aided drafting and design software on a personal computer is a requirement of this position.
  • Physical requirements of the position are the ability to walk around campus, climb ladders, carry large sets of building plans, read a measuring tape, etc. A number of areas that this position will need to access are not fully accessible due to stairs, narrow doorways, equipment layout etc.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or related field.
  • Knowledge of and experience with AutoCAD 2018 and/or REVIT is a plus.
  • The ability to communicate graphically through hand sketching to convey possible solutions to problems, detail out building conditions, etc. is desirable.
Physical Demands
  • Physical requirements of the position are the ability to walk around campus, climb ladders, carry large sets of building plans, read a measuring tape, etc. A number of areas that this position will need to access are not fully accessible due to stairs, narrow doorways, equipment layout etc.
Working conditions and environment
  • Occasional evening or weekend hours as needed.
