Under general supervision responsible for overseeing team duties related to medical billing, accounts receivable and follow-up for Southwest Medical Home Health, Hospice, and Palliative Care. Assist department manager and supervisor with a variety of office functions on a daily basis. Serves as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish assigned tasks and goals.
Overseeing the daily preparation and editing of medical claims for submission, both hardcopy and electronically, to various third party payors and clearinghouses. Oversees the batching and deposit preparation of daily payments received, with posting of payments and contractual adjustments to the patient accounts in the applicable Practice Management System
Auditing, random spot checks on daily work batches and claim form review for accuracy
Oversees the daily workflow of the team members assigned. Prepares monthly analysis reports identifying issues and concerns affecting the outstanding receivables
Responsible for the training and development of new and existing team members. Assist management with the development of department standards, policies and procedures, attendance records, counseling, and performance evaluations
Responsible for identifying the need for system changes, researching and development of new information technology as needed within the department
Responsible for communicating with inter-company personnel regarding medical coding and billing issues. On-site training of clinical personnel on billing issues as needed. Communicates with insurance carriers on contracting and procedural issues Attending monthly meetings and seminars pertaining to medical and/ or corporate functions
Responsible for performing all team duties as needed and handles special projects as assigned
Type at least 45 wpm and 10 key proficient
4+ years billing experience in a high volume multi-specialty setting, with at least 2 years in a team leadership position Medicare and/or Medicaid billing experience
Thorough knowledge of medical insurance and federal guidelines
High school education or equivalent experience
Computer skills basic (Word, Excel)
Excellent oral, written communication and interpersonal skills
Thorough knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding
