What's the role?
Manage the procurement process for complex and/or emerging marketplace categories of spend including but not limited to technology, financial data feeds, investment performance and analytical solutions, and business process outsourcing. Responsible for the execution of all process and procedures encompassing the entire Enterprise Vendor and Alliance Management (EVAM) life cycle. This includes need/opportunity identification; strategic sourcing; contract and compliance management (risk management); and relationship management. Specifics include developing and implementing spend management activities and opportunities, vendor governance and contracting strategies for the assigned spend categories; working closely with varying levels of management in the primary business units to proactively manage the mix and number of vendors providing products and services to Northwestern Mutual, leading contract negotiations, and providing guidance and oversight in the management of the vendor relationships. In addition, responsible for supporting the ongoing development and implementation of vendor management tools, processes, and best practices across the enterprise.

Bring Your Best! What this role needs:
Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis in Finance, Engineering/Computer Science, Management consulting experience. Masters or MBA preferred.
Minimum of 8 years of relevant sourcing and vendor management experience, of which at least 4 years include technology sourcing, cost modeling (e.g., total cost of ownership), and/or business process outsourcing.
Solid understanding of procurement/sourcing/category management methodology and able to drive value for customers leveraging the right sourcing levers
Broad knowledge of the market forces shaping a customer’s business context (e.g. supplier base, legal & regulatory environment, sources of competitive advantage
Deep technical background in the areas of software licensing, SaaS, Cloud computing, or financial data integration, management and distribution of security.
Ability to apply knowledge across complex business areas and lead cross functional teams comprised of the business, finance, information privacy and Law.
Provides subject matter advise to internal and external stakeholder groups addressing current/future business needs demonstrating marketplace knowledge
Leads and influences stakeholder groups with sound and articulate business case recommendations (i.e. build vs buy strategy) with quantifiable financial benefits
Strong customer focus and interpersonal skills
Excellent research, analytical, problem solving, planning and organization skills required as well as a high degree of personal initiative and motivation
