WGL - Category Manager III/IV - Construction
The Category Manager III/IV is responsible to manage operations related categories including but not limited to Meter Services, Leak Repair/Survey, Locating, and Corrosion) for the utilities arm of the Altagas (Washington Gas, SEMCO and ENSTAR). The Category Manager IV is responsible to develop Category Plans, evaluate supplier proposals through RFX or direct negotiations, perform price analysis/lead negotiations and the development of contract award recommendations, and establishment of strong supplier relationships.
This role will lead complex sourcing initiatives, including negotiations and maintaining contracts. This position will be responsible for the execution of strategic sourcing process and play a key role in
achieving annual savings commitments.
The successful individual will have in depth knowledge of category management principles in the energy and utilities industry. This role reports to the Director of Supply Chain. This role is based in Springfield, Virginia and is also required to serves all utilities (Washington Gas, Semco and Enstar) 30% travel may be required.
This position will also involve interfacing and communicating with technical subject matter experts and will be responsible for metrics within their area of responsibility and will be a key contributor to overall departmental goals. Ultimately, the Category Manager IV is expected to establish themselves as a trusted business advisor to the stakeholders that they support, and thus stay abreast of global industry trends and build awareness around the implications to cost, quality, and risk based on market forces and then be able to apply these conditions to the internal requirements and better position the business to reach its goals.
You WIll
Executes Category Management process for all high complexity materials and/or services assigned.
Responsible for achieving the best value and optimizing Total Cost of Ownership within assigned categories.
Leads all activities in the development of identifies suppliers, performs sourcing process including preparation and execution of RFx, reference checks, financial analysis, market analysis, negotiations/re-negotiations, spot buys, reporting trend analysis and documentation.
Lead negotiations for pricing, terms/conditions, and manages performance of vendors
Communicates and negotiates with suppliers to maximize value, manage expectations, and ensure performance; Includes KPIs, business reviews, issue resolution.
Partner with internal clients to understand business needs and ensure that vendors are successfully meeting those requirements.
Creates presentations summarizing bids/proposals received from suppliers, including complete analysis of pricing, and final recommendations to present/communicate to stakeholders
Develops and provides guidance on budgets for managed categories to present to stakeholders and monitors contract performance and rebates with suppliers.
Conduct opportunity assessment thru analyzing spend, and coordinate with leadership and stakeholders to expand procurement influence in other spend areas.
Exposure to digital procurement tools such as PowerAdvocate, SAP/Ariba, PowerBI, GEP, Ivalua, etc. is a plus.
Advanced analytical and financial skills including the ability to quickly synthesize, distill and draw conclusions on disparate data.
Monitors industries (supply chain) in managed categories to maintain awareness of current market trends and initiatives.
You Must Have
Bachelor's Degree Supply Chain Management, Business, Economics, Engineering, Finance, or related fields preferred
5+ Years years of experience and expertise in Supply Chain sourcing for contract services or goods required
Supply Chain or Project Management related certifications (e.g., CPSM, Six Sigma, PMP) are considered an asset.
Demonstrated strategic, project management, process improvement, innovation, and team building skills.
Solid analytical skills with hands on experience to analyze and produce accurate conclusions to support category decisions based on key data. Ability to foresee market trends to keep Company ahead of the competition
Strong background in commercial processes and negotiations
Experience in collaboration and team building
Stakeholder management, including presentation to managers and making recommendations.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with ability to manage competing priorities,
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio and Project). Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel a must and experience with other data analysis tools preferred. Strong aptitude for data mining, formulas and logic.
