The Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) is seeking two Customer Service Representatives to provide excellent customer support to all visitors and users of two Arlington community centers (Arlington Mill and Walter Reed). These community centers house services managed by the Department of Parks and Recreation in addition to services managed by other County Departments such as the Human Resources Department, the Department of Human Services, and Arlington Public Schools.

The primary purpose and focus of the community centers is the provision of a full range of recreation and leisure programs and services for an urban and diverse community of all ages. The programmatic mix includes drop-in youth, teen and adult programs; a variety of Enjoy Arlington Classes and a concentrated 55+ location which includes a congregate meal program, fitness and wellness programs and other 55+ classes and special events. Other programs offered include the Arlington Education and Employment Program (REEP), Adult Day Care, Project Family, Outreach and computer education programs; the Aspire Afterschool program and Phoenix Bikes program.

Specific duties include:
Providing front desk reception services to members, users and visitors at the community center front desk and by phone including responding to requests for information in a clear and professional manner;
Providing information and referral services including explaining services provided and explaining various rules, regulations and guidelines;
Using a database platform to take room reservations, update records, process membership and program registrations, accept fees and process fee reductions;
Utilizing Microsoft Office functions to create documents and maintain data in spreadsheets, and other software to create visually appealing materials/signs;
Identifying and addressing users' service needs or issues, researching details and providing or offering solutions based on findings;
Opening/Closing of the building and performing room setups/take downs; and
Responding to emergency situations and performing problem resolution, and acting on behalf of management in his/her absence.
The ideal candidates will have exceptional communication and problem solving skills, be able to multi-task, prioritize,and manage time effectively, and be adept at providing high level customer service and discretion when dealing with the public.
Selection Criteria: Minimum: High School diploma or GED, plus administrative support experience that includes customer service.

Substitution: Successful completion of college coursework from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the experience requirement on the following basis: two (2) years college coursework = six (6) months of experience.

Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
Providing extensive customer service in person at a recreation or community center which included providing instructions and explaining various rules, regulations and/or guidelines;
Using Microsoft Publisher or similar software to create various visually appealing documents;
Working with scheduling or registration software programs (i.e., Rec Trac); and/or
Performing problem/conflict resolution.

Special Requirements: Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence or the applicant must have the ability and willingness to use alternative methods of transportation to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at locations other than the primary worksite. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide, a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.
Additional Information: Work Hours: Varied between 6:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m., Monday through Sunday, depending on schedule and staffing needs; some evening and weekend hours are required.
