DIRECTOR MEDICAL PROGRAMS - PHARMACOLOGY
MALCOLM X COLLEGE
Malcolm X College is seeking a Director Medical Programs to lead the overall management of the day-to-day operations of our Pharmacy Technology education programs. The ideal candidate will have successful management experience, knowledge of academic curriculum development, and a passion for helping students meet their academic goals. Malcolm X College is the healthcare hub of City Colleges’ College. The School of Health Sciences at Malcolm X provides a variety of allied health programs to students interested in completing two-year associate degrees and/or obtaining credentials in the health sciences that will lead to careers in the high-growth healthcare industry. Programs include Nursing, Radiography, Surgical Technology, Respiratory Care, Dental Hygiene, Pharmacy Technology, in addition to other high-demand Health Sciences fields.
Selects adequate and appropriate experiential sites. Documents that each experiential site has proper licensing. Determines that students will have the opportunity to practice a sufficiently wide range of activities in order to achieve the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities. Reviews experiential training sites within the 12-month period prior to students being assigned/active in a site. Ensures that affiliation agreements for all sites are completed and currently; and ensures that the preceptor of record has received instruction regarding the requirements of the program and the responsibilities of the site.
The Program Director ensures that students’ achievement of educational objectives is evaluated appropriately, to include their knowledge, skills, and abilities leading to Entry-level or Advanced-level pharmacy technician job competencies.
Supervises evaluates and manages department faculty and support staff. Interviews and recommends for hire full-time and part-time instructional and other program staff; evaluates all staff and participates in disciplinary actions as necessary; recommends termination when appropriate.
Maintains department personnel and student records and other confidential documents in accordance with district policy, accreditation, and/or certification standards.
Participates in and reports to the monthly Consortium Educational Advisory Committee, bimonthly Medical Director’s meetings, and required accreditation meetings. Conducts program evaluations and self-study reports to ensure the program remains in compliance with accreditation standards.
Designs and evaluates didactic and clinical curriculum to ensure that expected competencies are being taught to the students. Ensures that instruction is consistent with national progressional standards to assure skill and knowledge competencies of graduates.
Developments, implements, and evaluates the standards of the medical program being managed to ensure quality student education and quality patient care in clinical settings.
Creates and implements educational assessment plans appropriate to the needs of each student. Implements a program to track and monitor the assessment plans for each Associate. Develops and implements competency programs.
Assesses, evaluates, and implements program changes as workforce trends demand. Evaluates student job placement processes and work with college staff regarding same.
Oversees the selection and evaluation of clinical sites and documents the program expectation are being met.
Ensures that educational, patient care, and future employer concerns are met while applying for and maintaining program accreditation.
Responsible for budget preparation and accountability. Develops and monitors annual department budgets based on the history of expenditures, predicted enrollment and revenue, and current allocations.
Prepares reports for College administration on all program activities, standards, accreditation requirements, external meetings, educational concerns, and students issues and successes.
Ensure faculty and students meet standards and guidelines regarding didactic or clinical activities at multiple off-campus facilities.
Pharmacist or a Nationally certified pharmacy technician with at least an Associate's degree required. Bachelor’s degree preferred
if the candidate is a Pharmacy Technician, the candidate must be a graduate from an ASHP/ACPE-Accredited pharmacy technician training
Registered Pharmacist in the State of Illinois; or Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician
At least five years of experience as a pharmacist or pharmacy technician.
Adheres to the state’s regulation for licensure or registration in the practice of pharmacy; and
Demonstrates ongoing continuing education in the field of pharmacy.
Member of a national pharmacy or education association and state pharmacy association.
Previous instructional experience in Higher Education strongly preferred
Previous department budget experience preferred
