This is a full-time, benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
Under general direction of the Associate Director of Advising and Evaluations, the primary responsibilities of the Evaluator/Academic Adviser trainee position are to learn Title V, CSU and SDSU policies and procedures, understand admission, evaluation and graduation processes and apply this knowledge toward the performance of the primary responsibilities of an Academic Adviser in the Office of Advising and Evaluations.
The person holding this position will be classified as a Student Services Professional 1 B for a period of twelve months, during which time they will undergo an internal training program with the expectation that at the conclusion of the twelve-month training program, he/she will independently perform the following responsibilities: 1) determine eligibility for undergraduate admission to the university; 2) evaluate records towards bachelor degree requirements including articulation, determination of transferability and exam credit awards; and 3) deliver academic advice on readmission to the university and the completion of graduation requirements for those pursuing a bachelor’s degree. Upon successful completion of the training program, the incumbent will be eligible for classification as a Student Services Professional II.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $3,869 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,685 - $5,213 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis.
Possession of knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Equivalent amounts of graduate level job related education may be substituted for the required experience.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
One year experience in interpreting and explaining academic policies governing public or private university admissions.
One year experience working in a college or university’s admissions, advising, evaluations, registrar or other student service related office.
Knowledge of certification policies of the CSU and California community college systems.
Experience with student information and/or degree audit systems.
Experience reviewing college transcript information.
Ability to calculate grade point averages
