RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client that is seeking a MySQL Database Administrator in New York, New York (NY).

Summary:
Our client is one of the fastest growing technology firms who is searching for a MySQL Database Administrator with good understanding of columnar database. They are using Vertica (you are not required to know Vertica), but desire to learn is important and they'll provide training. An ideally candidate will provide MySQL database to support our database systems used by 24/7 low latency applications. Experience in Big Data in your career-at 2 billion query requests per day and 1 TB of data generated per hour. This position is located in New York (central to all the transportation hubs), and you'll report to the Director of Data Infrastructure. This is a newly created role. MySQL Database Administrator Responsibilities:
  • Work closely and support DBAs to run our MySQL database systems (including development, testing, and production environments)
  • Support software development with database operations including DDL and DML changes, query optimization, storage optimization, and overall database design guidance and integration MySQL databases, used by different 24/7 systems
  • Perform database administration tasks including maintenance, upgrades, user management, monitoring, performance tuning, and data purging
  • Work with various teams to control and execute day-to-day database operations
  • Develop strategies and implement solutions for database continuous testing, integration and delivery
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required
  • Must have a good understanding and at least 3+ years hands-on experience. You must have some understanding and the desire to learn columnar database. We'll invest in you and provide you with sufficient training
  • Hands-on experience with MySQL
  • Experience with database clustering, performance tuning, table partitioning, monitoring, upgrades, and data replication
  • Experience or interest in database automated continuous testing, integration and delivery
  • Experience working in a Linux environment
  • Experience with applications database support and SQL optimization
  • Excellent communication, documentation and troubleshooting skills
  • Good knowledge of data backup, data purging, recovery, and SQL
  • An innovative approach to work, constantly looking to upgrade the system to more efficient and effective new technologies and processes
Nice to have:
  • Experience with data warehouse development
  • Experience with bash scripting, Python and VSQL
  • Experience with Hadoop, Kafka-Vertica integration, and Apache Spark data streaming technologies
  • Experience with Tungsten replication and clustering
  • Experience with Aerospike
