Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc. has a contingent opportunity for a full-time, entry-level Jr. Research Analyst to support the Department of Defense (DoD) in our Arlington, VA (Crystal City) office. The successful applicant will support physical security development and test and evaluation programs for the DoD and conduct research, assemble data, process results, participate in the development of innovative concepts, develop of strategic plans, and prepare reports and presentations in support of program objectives. This person must be able to think creatively and challenge conventional thinking over a wide variety of government related projects focusing on better ways to leverage related efforts across DoD programs to meet objectives for greater integration and inter-operability. This requires someone who has strong potential to develop good analytical skills and problem solving abilities as well as a person who can be effective in a cross-functional setting.

Jr. Research Analyst’s duties include supporting operational and technical assessments of security related technology and operational concept developments/demonstrations to include capability fielding in the following areas:

Physical Security/Physical Security Equipment and Systems
Anti-terrorism and force protection
Integrated Sensor and Command/Control technology
Non-lethal/Less-than-Lethal weapons technology
Maritime Security Operations
In addition, successful applicant will be responsible for research and analysis concerning the effectiveness of various capability/technology demonstration programs, program management, and execution.

Primary Responsibilities & Functions:
Contribute to presentations to support complex organizational and systems integration relationships within the DoD
Must be able to complete multiple tasks with limited supervision
Must be able to conduct detailed investigative research, data collection and summary memos
Have excellent communication skills with appropriate internal and external contacts
Conduct business and communicate with clients in a highly professional manner
Take initiative to advance projects and build approaches to meeting objectives with only minimal direction
Work effectively under deadlines and manage multiple projects with evolving requirements
Manage personal schedule, complete assigned tasks on time and document billing time to clients accurately

Required Skills & Qualifications:
Requires Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, and zero to two years of related experience.
Some familiarity with DoD roles and missions, and organizational structure
Working knowledge of PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office applications with highly developed MS Word skills
Innovative and fresh thinking with a ‘can do’ attitude
Ability to manage and prioritize numerous concurrent assignments
Organized individual, with prioritization and time management skills
Candidate must have or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Security Clearance as a condition of employment
Applicant must be a U.S. citizen
Very highly developed technical writing and verbal communication skills, especially writing and interviewing
Applicant must be able to function in a team-oriented environment and to interact professionally with employees and management at all levels
