This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the Class A Drivers' daily activities and responsibilities while the drivers are driving all over the US and Canada. The position is based out of Superior, WI.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Communicates and greets drivers in a professional, friendly manner and encourages drivers to be safe out on the road. Maintains a favorable working relationship with drivers.
- Ensures timely response to any in cab message by identifying themselves per message. In addition, identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.
- Through the effective use of the computer system:
- Provides the drivers with their pickup and delivery appointments and ensures the accurate time of the delivered and/or picked up load is in the system.
- Determines when the driver is ready for their next load.
- Ensures efficient scheduling and routing based on HOS.
- Monitors the drivers’ in cab system usage to ensure the driver is correctly utilizing the in cab system.
- Determines when additional technological training is needed and schedules training accordingly.
- Monitor idle percentage and fuel compliance to keep at a reasonable level. Address issues/concerns as needed.
- Creates daily lists of available drivers and available loads and ensures all available loads and drivers are covered and communicates this to the appropriate individuals.
- In coordination with the Traffic Coordinator, plans delivery of loads and manages the empty trucks and bobtail movement. Coordinates any bobtail moves with the Director of Fleet Managers.
- Manages utilization of drop yards, i.e. one for one drop and hooks.
- Communicates with Weekend Operations on all scheduled loads, including trips in process, deliveries/drops, drivers waiting on loads and those bringing back trailers.
- Oversees each driver’s mileage by reviewing the driver movement report weekly and monthly; works with and encourages the drivers to increase and maximize their monthly mileage goals of 9,000 solo miles or 15,000 for teams.
- Manages the drivers daily hours of service and ensuring the driver has the legal hours to run the load.
- Assists driver with trip planning as needed.
- Reports any unsafe issues or compliance concerns to Safety.
- Maintains up-to-date awareness of the industry trends and customers and brokers business status.
- Schedule and complete driver annual reviews in a timely manner.
- Assists scheduling drivers’ training as required/needed.
- Communicate with all divisions to flex capacity when available.
- Assists with scheduling Drug and Alcohol testing as needed per Safety Department request.
- Ensures the drivers’ pay is entered correctly before it goes to Payroll by reviewing routing and continuity, and determines any extra pay which includes: Lumpers, Layovers, New York City, Ramp pay, Stop pay, City pay, Detention, Canadian Border Crossing, and Breakdowns.
- Address all driver performance issues as needed. Brings recurring and/or unresolved problems to the Director of Fleet Managers and/or Human Resources.
- Documents performance related issues and escalate to Director of Fleet Managers and/or Human Resources when necessary.
- Verify load information appears correct in TMW, correct errors as needed.
- Tracks drivers’ vacation, days off and home time.
- Participates in new driver orientation as requested
- Attends staff meetings and training programs, as requested.
- Provides backup for the Operations staff as needed.
- Attends work consistently and punctually. Requests time off per policy.
- Ability to achieve goals set forth by management.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education &/or Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent (GED). A college degree in Transportation and/or Logistics is preferable.
- Two years prior experience in Transportation/Logistics or a related field strongly preferred.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- A combination of education and experience can be used at the discretion of management.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.
- Ability to lead a team effectively.
- Knowledge and understanding of the FMCSA Regulations and other transportation principles.
- Strong motivation and negotiating skills to motivate and assist drivers.
- Ability to plan, prioritize, coordinate and carry-out duties and responsibilities in an environment with constant interruptions, call volumes and changes.
- Must be flexible and patient in dealing with changing situations.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Must be proficient with computers and relevant software applications and general office equipment.
- Ability to manage and monitor assigned group of drivers effectively.

Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
