WHY? Surly guests expect to be able to buy cool Surly merchandise and do so in a clean, orderly, and friendly environment. Yes, this means folding shirts, dusting glasses, and cleaning up a beer spill or two. It also means having cool conversations about the products we carry, the beers we drink, and sometimes about the best places to catch a live show or play some pinball. Maybe a more appropriate job title would be, “Surly Loving Retail Rockstar Concierge to the Masses.”
WHAT? The Full-Time Retail Associate is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day execution of the master retail plan, supporting the associates, and making the guest experience a kick-ass one. This position reports to the Retail Assistant Manager and Retail Manager. General duties include:
Sets the pace on the retail floor. Creates a positive team environment with all Retail Associates.
Ensures that each guest receives outstanding service by providing a friendly, clean, and organized environment.
Maintains outstanding standards, solid product knowledge (both of retail products and SURLY beers), and all other components of customer service. A thirst for learning about the craft beer industry locally and beyond is a definite plus.
Opens and/or closes the store. Ensures appropriate merchandise stock levels, presentations, signage, and assortment in all departments.
Manages inventory levels, using inventory counts to maintain accuracy daily.
Supervises part-time Retail Associates under the direction of the Retail Assistant Manager and Retail Manager. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Process information and merchandise through computer system and POS register system.
Balances registers according to accounting and security procedures.
Works courteously and professionally with all vendors and co-workers. Calmly and tactfully manages difficult or emotional situations. Respects all Surly staff and understands that no one person is more important than another.
Brings potentially systematic problems that require immediate action to the attention of the Retail Assistant Manager or Retail Manager
Any other responsibilities as assigned by Retail Assistant Manager or Retail Manager.
WHO? The Full-Time Retail Associate in an energetic person who leads by example, sets the pace, assists where needed, and contributes to building a positive team spirit. Basic requirements include:
Associates/Bachelor’s degree and two to four years of retail experience or training, or a combination of education and experience required.
Ability to work varied hours/days, including opening and closing of the store. Ensures high customer service standards by supporting Retail Associates during peak periods or when scheduling conflicts arise. Picks up shifts as needed.
Knowledge of equipment and software including, but not limited to: phone systems, printers/fax machines, spreadsheets, word processing, email, inventory programs, Point of Sale (POS) programs, Internet applications, forums, and social media sites.
Able to perform physical work in a loud environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 55 pounds.
