We are seeking a Medical Assistant/Ophthalmic Tech for a direct hire, full time position. This position requires travel. Travel expenses paid. Procedural experience preferred. Will train the right person.
Functions include, but not limited to:
- Assist in procedures, under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel
- Assist with minor surgical procedures, applying aseptic techniques while preparing instruments and anticipating additional instruments and supplies for procedures
- Participates in the surgical pause prior to beginning procedure
- Measures and passes medications utilized during the surgical procedure
- Monitor and continually assess procedure room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs
- Maintain a proper sterile field during surgical procedures
- Clean and restock operating room, gather and placing equipment and supplies and arranging instruments according to instructions, such as a preference card
- Assists in terminal clean and prepares the procedure room for the next patient
- Set up office-based surgery suite with equipment, supplies and other necessary items
- Ensures all surgical suites are fully stocked and prepared for surgery
- Train and coach ophthalmic personnel on sterile technique, surgical procedures and sterile processing until deemed competent
- Provide instruction and supervision to other ophthalmic personnel
- Provide technical assistance to surgeons, surgical nurses, or other team members.
- Report all facility visits to supervisor
- Provide ongoing support possibly in person or by telephone to all assigned accounts
- Participates in creating and maintaining educational material, facility inventory, task checklists
- Clean or sterilize ophthalmic or surgical instruments, maintains appropriate logs and instructs surgical personnel in care of instruments and equipment
- Maintain ophthalmic instruments or equipment and instructs surgical personnel on proper maintenance
- Performs vital signs on patients and teaches others to do so
- Records patients health history
- Follow doctors medications orders in safe manner
- Communicates with team members on patient’s status
- Documents according to policy
Qualifications:
· Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a as a Medical Assistant
· Ability to travel up to 50 - 75%
· Have current BLS certification
· Clinical and administrative knowledge of an ophthalmology practice, preferred
· Experience in implementing new processes. Experience with process improvement from productivity standpoint
· Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, both written and spoken
· Strong time management, technical and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and within a team environment
· Must demonstrate good computer skills and be able to embrace new technologies
