Operation Manager – Product Systems, Conway Facility

POSITION PURPOSE:
Provide operations team leadership and management to attain World Class Manufacturing objectives.

CUSTOMERS AND CUSTOMER EXPECTATIONS:
Customers:
Conway management, Sector management, team/department members and end users

Expectations:
Economically produced quality products and services. Assets (materials, inventories, equipment and personnel) properly managed, maintained and developed. Positive work environment maintained to promote achievement of World Class Manufacturing objectives.

SCOPE:
Incumbent reports to the Facility Manager. He/she has broad operations or maintenance responsibilities for one or more high capacity and technically complex manufacturing and/or converting process(es) used for producing a range of base materials and/or finished consumer goods. Typically, numerous raw materials are consumed in the process with each having several critical process variables to be monitored and controlled. Rate of technological and business changes vary across product lines but can add significantly to the nature and variety of the challenges faced. The incumbent provides leadership for a team which typically includes members from several functional groups. Objectives typically are focused at the department level but have a major impact on total mill/plant performance.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
This position requires knowledge and ability typically associated with a Bachelors degree. The incumbent also must have broad knowledge and significant experience (a minimum of 10 years leadership experience in manufacturing or relevant industry) in operations/ maintenance and business management at the functional, multi-functional, mill/plant and sector levels. Making presentations outside the mill/plant including managing vendor partnerships and coaching for performance and career development are typical experiences. The incumbent will typically have experience in more than one facility, sector and function and will have developed a working knowledge of sector staff activities. The incumbent will have led the development of department objectives and goals and action plans to achieve them, will have managed in an environment where success was achieved more through leading others than possessing technical knowledge, and will have managed to a planning horizon of one year or more.

Operating budget up to $250 MM
Supervise and lead up to 325 team members
Single or multiple projects

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Safety: Implement loss control throughout the organization by visibly demonstrating that safety is embraced as a value. Develop and maintain safety systems in accordance with K-C loss control management and lead their groups to complete safety objectives and ensure a safe and productive work environment. Create and support the environment that removes barriers to success. Follow the Safety Roles & Responsibilities Matrix by holding yourself and all team members accountable to its tenets. Fully comply with corporate loss management policies as well as government safety and health regulations. Support Corporate Drug and Alcohol efforts working with their management team to deal with issues as they arise.

Quality: Develop and maintain high levels of quality awareness that will assure conformance to product specifications and promote continuous improvement through the use of statistical process controls. Control of microbiological contamination is a key challenge within the department. Observe all applicable quality procedures and regulations. Perform tasks utilizing Good Manufacturing Practices. Demonstrate an understanding of the Quality Policy and how it affects my job.

Productivity: Ensure programs are developed and implemented to improve productivity and reduce cost of manufacture and maintenance, ensuring the department is competitive and profitable.

Human Resource Development: Develop and maintain a favorable employee-relations climate to assure employees are working together as a team and that they consider their facility a fair and equitable place of employment.

Training: Train and develop deputies to ensure their continued contribution to department, facility, company and corporate objectives.

Policies and Procedures: Communicate managing philosophies, facility policies, personnel guidelines, and objectives to employees to ensure their participation in the achievement of facility and department objectives.

Internal Controls: Ensure that internal control procedures and corporate, company, and facility policies, procedures, systems and controls are complied with and that all department personnel are aware of and following those established procedures.

Communication: Communicate fully with superiors, subordinates, and others who have a need to know. Be informative without being obtrusive or vexatious. Communicate in a way that is timely, yet prompt; complete, yet concise; candid, yet accurate; and clear, yet responsive.
