Position Purpose and Objectives

The mission of the Business Intelligence (BI) department at Arrowhead is to take raw data and transform it into useful and actionable information as well as identify areas of strategic interest and opportunity for the organization and our Membership.

A Junior Business Analyst is responsible for analyzing, maintaining and improving various systems and tools that help business units in their daily work. In addition, this position will play a critical role assisting other analysts or departments with frequent and varying requests including, but not limited to: data gathering, ad-hoc analysis, visualization, presentation and process improvement.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Personally, provides exceptional Member service; uses Service Standards in every work-related interaction.
Maintains existing BI tools, models and analytics that are required by various business units to run their department more effectively and efficiently.
Provides insight behind the data to help identify underlying root cause and actionable trends.
Assists other Analysts and Team Members in the department and throughout the organization to complete projects or initiatives in a timely manner. Operates in a supporting role on large and small scale projects and ad hoc requests.
Consults and collaborates with fellow analysts on design, implementation and measurement of system changes including development and process improvement.
Gathers preliminary requirements and helps to define scope of projects or tasks; also helps to validate various systems before, during and after implementation.
Maintains a working knowledge of BSA/OFAC laws/regulations applicable to area of responsibility; complies with all federal and state laws, as well as organizational policies, procedures, and processes, including (but not limited to) those related to the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Identify Theft Red Flags, and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
Other duties as necessary and as assigned by Supervisor to achieve the goals of the department and credit union.
Positions directly supervised: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or its equivalent, and a minimum of a two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school. A Bachelor's degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, quantitative analysis, econometrics or similar area of study is strongly preferred. Additionally, a minimum of one (1) year experience in a financial institution, preferably a credit union, is required.

Specific knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Productivity software; familiarity with database concepts and query language such as SQL; familiarity with a programming language such as Python, R, Java, C, C++, etc.; ability to quickly learn new technology and apply complex processes to find opportunity or mitigate risk; ability to utilize resources effectively; ability to develop relevant knowledge; ability to think creatively and have an aptitude for problem solving and finding solutions; ability to use relevant technology and apply expertise appropriately; ability to quickly understand complex business practices without any context; ability to understand BI concepts and how they fit into the overall picture of an organization. Additionally, excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) to allow for effective communication at all levels of the organization; experience working with tech leads and end-users; general understanding of financial institution business lines including lending, shares, investment services, asset/liability etc. Prior experience in analytical, logic-based or critical thinking role is preferred.

Compliance Ability to maintain a proficient knowledge and compliance of all applicable rules and regulations under BSA/AML and OFAC regulations. This includes, but is not limited to: Bank Secrecy Act; SAFE Act; Anti Money Laundering; Regulation CC; and Regulation Z.

Language Skills Ability to communicate and understand written and oral language and the ability to effectively present information.

Mathematical Skills Ability to perform basic math skills to include adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

Other Skills and Abilities Ability to use office equipment such a personal computer and calculator. Must be able to type proficiently. Ability to be bonded. Ability to be punctual and have regular attendance.

Work Environment

This position operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
