Abbott Neuromodulation develops advanced medical implants and accessories for the stimulus of the nervous system and sensing of biomarkers. We are on the forefront of implantable device miniaturization and data science for improved patient outcomes. Through advanced embedded sensing and external mobile device apps we create an ecosystem for developing quick advancements in the field of neuromodulation through modern data science and analysis in a closed loop system.
This position works independently to design new best in class implantable and external neuromodulation devices, for the treatment of chronic pain and neurological disorders. The Senior FW engineer designs products and development tools in a fast-paced cross-functional design environment, and is current on new technologies and design practices. This includes providing instruction, oversight, and mentoring to other design engineers and pushing for excellence in themselves and the team.
Owns embedded firmware/system development from requirements through commercial launch
Applies advanced engineering and scientific principles to architecture and embedded firmware designs to reduce design risk and optimize design features
Develops/utilizes models, characterization testing, analysis methods, and statistics to optimize designs
Creatively solves ultra-low power design challenges
Performs tasks independently while effectively utilizing other team members
Mentors, trains, and leads other design engineers
This is a non-supervisory role
Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or related field
15+ years of relevant engineering experience in the design and analysis of real-time embedded firmware designs with low power, mixed signal processors
Experience architecting embedded real-time systems
Advanced characterization testing, root cause analysis and utilization of benchtop measurement equipment and test setups
Experience with design and implementation of BLE designs and cybersecurity/data transfer best practices
Experience developing firmware and leading teams of engineers in a regulated industry/environment
Experience developing firmware utilizing Agile principals and best practices
Working knowledge of statistics & data analysis
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Master’s degree in computer engineering or related field
Experience with digital signal processing, data analysis and/or machine learning
Experience with software development for medical devices and IEC 62304 compliance
Experience planning project deliveries, milestones, and schedules and leading sub-teams in the delivery of firmware tasks
