Job Title: Lab Scientist, Biotechnology Services
Job Type: Full Time Exempt
Location: Pullman, WA
Description: The Services Scientist is responsible for performing all laboratory activities necessary for the virology group including but not limited to, handling of test articles, working with cell cultures, development of new testing procedures, coordinating special projects, and collaboration with Laboratory Manager and Study Director(s) to maintain high quality of testing. This technician will be responsible for preparing and reading FA slides, reporting results, and becoming familiar with the different types of viruses used by and detected by Services. The position may also assist microbiology testing services group as needed.
Obtain and maintain proficiency in following all laboratory SOPs and performing all virology assays including but not limited to:
Produce media and other laboratory reagents
Perform Test Article inoculation, cell culture checks, passing of cells
Perform virus inoculation and other tasks in a BL2 laboratory
Establish cell and virus stocks and maintain stock cell lines.
Report progress and problems during assays to Study Director(s) or Laboratory Manager.
Assist in training of new personnel
Perform all advanced virus testing
Report to and collaborate with Study Director or Laboratory Manager regarding all special projects.
Schedule special projects and training of other personnel who are assisting with special projects
Participate in assay verifications
Record incoming samples as needed
Assume supervisor responsibilities when designated by a manager
Assist microbiology personnel in scheduling, assay development and performance of routine testing as assigned
Actively help update SOP's as needed.
Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in a related discipline.
2+ years related experience.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
