PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Manager, Investment Tax assumes primary responsibility for the day-to-day tax operating activities of a group of investment products or functional areas. This involves the review and direction of other tax staff, performance of complex tax computations, and training and active oversight of the tax activities of other functional areas. These activities include the preparation of tax provisions, dividend computations, financial statement tax disclosures, the computation of certain complex book tax adjusting entries, and monitoring the performance of mutual fund tax qualification tests performed by various departments.
1. Mutual Fund Dividends and Tax Reporting – manage one or more tax accountants or supervisors involved in tax analysis and processing for an area of medium to high complexity and medium exposure such as tax returns, basic dividend computation review, computing or reviewing complex book/tax adjustments, and reporting certain tax information amounts sent to shareholders with 1099-DIV forms. The incumbent's thorough understanding of processes and internal accounting control make him/her a critical resource in identifying errors and needed changes in procedures. The incumbent will independently make day-to-day operating decisions in their areas of involvement and be held responsible to apply experienced judgment and their technical accounting and tax knowledge to assess internal accounting controls and independently initiate revisions to procedures and controls.
Mutual fund dividends – estimate, declare, and report. Oversee the production of required tax computations prepared by Investment Operations other tax department personnel. Prepare tax provisions for T. Rowe Price Mutual funds, compute estimated and actual dividend amounts and provide guidance on these matters to junior team members.
2. Tax Research - Research and apply tax rules related to mutual funds, other investment products and securities transactions in intermediate areas. Has working knowledge of tax rules underlying areas of involvement. Interfaces with research staff as necessary and can plan and implement research findings. Key role in assessing areas needing technical review.
3 . Tax Consulting – Serves as an available resource for their designated areas of expertise to all levels of associates throughout the firm regarding tax issues and projects, will participate in interdepartmental projects and will complete special tax analyses as requested.
College degree and 2 years of related work experience, or Associate degree and 4 years of related work experience, or High school diploma/equivalent and 6 years related work experience.
Mutual fund tax experience or 3 years tax experience
Strong analytical skills

Ability to apply research and see changes through to complete implementation
Able to work efficiently and under tight deadlines
Strong PC skills
Ability to perform in a team environment and to manage others
CPA strongly preferred
Masters in Tax
